To me, Salty Scot is sweeter than Russel's Angry Scotch. They're both good. Black Kettle had a limited release Scotch ale available in bottles a week or so ago, but I didn't get around to pick some up.
I don't get the hubbub with P49. Have yet to have a great brew from them.
For me, p49 is like a Canadian rogue. They make lots of what sound like really interesting brews, but they rarely measure up to expectations. Not bad beer, per se, just skewed towards the meh end of the spectrum.

Driftwood's Entangled is very tasty. A great white IPA.
I have been pretty disappointed with all the north van breweries… Black Kettle stuff is borderline gross, Deep Cove is totally meh, Green Leaf is not very good, and Bridge is decent but not noteworthy.
But between Brassneck, Four Winds, and Yellow Dog I couldn't ask for more great local beer anyway.

Four Winds Saison Brett (Batch 2) and Sovereign Super Saison are quite likely the best saisons that Canada has produced to date. They are easily in the top tier of saisons internationally too, they aren't even put to shame against a Hill Farmstead.
Speaking of best in Canada, LTM barrel aged Porter Baltique hitting stores this week.

Last night, I opened up a bottle of Megadestroyer from last year. I didn't much care for it when it was fresh, but time has done wonderful things to it. The licorice is still fairly prominent, but the flavours from the yeast shine through so much on it. Well impressed.
+1 on Megadestroyer after a year. Didn't like it that much fresh but brought a bottle home 2 yrs ago and it was awesome aged a year. Howe Sound is pretty much the only BC beer that makes it down here (Kokanee does not count as beer) and managed to find a couple megadestroyers a few months ago.
