I think the Elder is a really good Imperial IPA. Not too hoppy for the average IPA drinker, and a good amout of malt to make a balanced beer.

hahaha. You said balanced, maybe if you were a beer connoisseur. Normal people will have a fit over the amount of hops in that.

Pliny is very balanced, but it's not a hops to malt balance. You don't really taste the malts, but they are still doing something because the hops come across rich without being harsh. It's more like a full-spectrum hops balance.

It's not wildly different than much easier to get DIPAs, but it's worth picking up if you come across it for sure. Personally I'm happy to drink Fat Tug and SN Torpedo, etc. Then again I'm not a DIPA expert.

Just picked up some Pliny, kinda excited to try it.

A lot of hype around the The Elder, I'm curious to hear what you thought. Is it really #1? Too hoppy for mere mortals? BTW how the hell did you get it? I read you have to go the brewer in Santa Rosa, or close for a tap.

Something by Dogfish Head is next on my list of beer I'd like to try.

Gonna try it tonight… But it comes in bottles and isn't THAT hard to get. their sours are harder to get.

Dogfish head has some good stuff. I recently had their http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/10099/91677
It was really good.

jake has come through for me before, I fully suspect he is just trying to find all his clothes and finishing up breakfast

For being handy around her work, my wife got me the craft beer advent calendar. The Catholic in me is slightly bothered by not giving up beer for advent, the beer lover in me is as excited as a child on Christmas eve. First day is a maple porter.

^I had no idea what to expect with craft beer advent calendar, and decided to go with the other option out there through Phillips.

Searched high and low for the Snowcase advent calendar and finally found the last to in BC up in 100 mile.
Day one was a bit of a surprise starting out with a double IPA but delicious.
From what I hear there aren't any beers in here that are one-offs but it's still a fun way to get some variety and try all their styles.

VERY COOL GUYS. Really like seeing what beers you are trying in the advent thing. I really debated picking one up this year.
Let us know if any of the previous days beers were worth your time.

Everyone with a beer advent box officially sucks.

Giving you all the stink-eye of hate while I don't enjoy a unique beer every day of the month.

They hit the private stores about a month ago, and most BCL stores got a couple or three of the Snowcase a week or so after that. At this point, there are probably very, very, few to be found.

Snowcase beer #2:

Not one of my favourites, but kicking it off yesterday with the Amnesiac DIPA was great.

I like the Elsinore. Lately after having many double Ipa's imperial stouts and barley wines it's nice to have something a little more subtle.

I didn't actually have time for it last night. I'm a day behind on the advent calendar beers. Been busy enjoying some Houblon Chouffe 3x IPA
