I was actually meaning more of the ticket booth and on shore staff.. Some pretty cush jobs at BC Ferries.
Damnit I did all that math and didn't start an e-argument.

Confederation bridge to PEI costs 43.25$ per vehicle up to 2 axles for a return trip.
That's a fee that I wouldn't find offensive for BC Ferries.
I talked to someone who wanted to come visit Vancouver Island with his RV to visit but was looking at over $600 round trip to do so. He drove to the Oregon Coast instead.

The complaint of Islanders is while we may have chosen to live on the island, the ferry fares have doubled.
I hear you guys. I chose to buy a car back when gas was 40 cents a liter, and now I'm really getting screwed over.

so as a Vancouver Islander how do you feel about your trips to the mainland subsidizing the smaller runs to the gulf islands?
that would burn my britches.
user costs are going to go up on all sorts of things in the future. cant tax any more so its the easiest cash grab.
Oh C'mon, didn't you hear that inflation is only 2% or some such in Canada?
(excluding everything that people need)
my idea would be to vary the fares with the day and time. Put more coast saver savings on ferries that are off peak. Cheap flights don't always go at the best times.

how much extra would you charge on the peak times to offset the deals?
The northern route could be a major boon to the economy of both the sunshine coast and the north island.
The southern route I proposed would have to cross into the US via Bellingham - if you factor in not having to wait plus the ferry sailing time, the trip to Victoria would be shorter.
Really??!? You think any of the options you've mentioned are financially feasible?? And I thought you were an engineer? You mention Confederation Bridge as an example, but neglect to mention that the water depth is a fraction of what we would have to deal with here. Just putting the pilings down would be an engineering feat on its own nevermind building the bridge after that.
Some big bridges…

With the PEI bridge you also only pay one way, it is free to come to the Island but about $45 for a car to drive off the island. Hell of a lot cheaper.

nothing - when they had the coast saver sailings we went to vancouver twice in a month.
if they offered odd hour sailings at discounts, you'd fill those ferries which are currently not doing so well. Would also help overall traffic as people might adjust their schedules instead of all going for the same ferry and sitting in 2 sailing waits.

I would be a lot happier with BC Ferries if they realized that when I drive down to the Horseshoe Bay terminal and I see the sign that says "Langdale- #3" I'm good, I don't need a dozen people to stop me, ask where I am going, and then point to lane number 3.
I would also like to not be parked in the side isle, inside lane so I get off the ferry last, EVERY FUCKING TIME.
A pub near the Langdale terminal would be sweet too. Overlooking the ocean maybe. A nice deck.
Is anyone sending this list to them?
Or. If you are first to the ferry, you should be first on and first off. Have paid reservation fees which gets me on board first, only to be last off.
