What is a peaty option that is relatively inexpensive?

My go to is Forty Creek, looking at ad some variety without breaking the bank.

I'm in the same boat. dipping my toes in the whisky waters, looking for good bang for the buck stuff. just picked up a bowmore small batch which seems like a reasonable introductory Islay at $60. otherwise everything seems to start at $80 . tho next time I'm in AB I'm picking up some $65 laphroaig quarter cask.

The Laphroiag Quarter Cask or the Ardbeg 10 would be pretty good choices, about 80-90 bucks at BCL stores. Laphroaig 10 is also a good one if you want to go a touch cheaper.

It may be true of many of the big Scottish distilleries, but Bruichladdich in particular has been pretty freely developing different recipes. They had a collection called the "sixteens", a bunch of different 16 y.o. caskings. The bourbon sixteen is f*cking awesome. I got two bottles before they became near impossible to find.

Lots of smaller distilleries like Edradour doing a lot of experimentation, too.

Just heard about the Edradour, never had a chance to try it myself.

I have bottle of BL, 2007 Rockside Farm. Absolutely awesome.

My plan is to go to Scotland in late spring for some riding, sightseeing and shopping.

speaking of bang for the buck, has anyone tried lot 40? awarded best in canada; curious how something like this compares to the bottom tier single malt scotches at 2x the price. i'd assume cdn products should be considerably better value, but i've yet to try something domestically distilled that i really like. i tried cr northern harvest rye, but wasn't swayed enough to actually buy a bottle.

Grab an Oban cask strength. You drink it 50/50 with water, which gets a great taste and better value per oz of drink compared to straight Oban.

Single malts can/are be overrated ..
Try Famous grouse black, blended from single malts that are all least 12 years old and including highland park which is some seriously good scotch.
FG is smooth a little peaty and a little smoky. Really nice.
For good single try Aberfeldy 12 , good value for money single malt.

this was my first scotch purchase. no peat, but i quite like it.

speaking of budget / blends, i'm curious about cutty sark prohibition.

Tastes can vary, but I like lot 40 a lot, and find it to be a great value. But lot 40 is a rye, totally different taste profile than a bottom tier scotch. I find it isn't as spicy as the northern harvest, and a bit sweeter.

I would take it over a cheap ($40-50 bottle) scotch any day of the week.

I once had a 12 year old and that was already stellar.

Yesterday I had the last sip of a bottle Jameson Black Barrel, if some of you appreciated/like a Bourbon and a Scotch give this one a try. A little stronger than the normal Jameson coupled with a nice touch of Bourbon taste, no idea how to describe it, caramell?
