I'm considering going to BCIT to learn plumbing. It might be quicker.
Drains need slope, and pex is brain dead simple to replace copper. Unless it's a scope of job thing or you are looking at major changes, its' definitely doable for the home-gamer. (disclaimer: not a plumber,just a handyman)

I hear ya. The only problem is is that when I learn something new, I've got one pretty good fuck-up in there. I really don't want to clean up shit.
