the best thing you can know is that there are a definite spectrum of chemistries of brains and disorders definitely do develop and persist… some individuals need treatment (like autistic individuals, for example, which is more than just imbalance) and others simply need to find their place in the world.

if your place in the world involves Ritalin and such, then fine. it's not going to kill you. BUt it's worth considering that for your children (if you have them) that you can encourage their strengths. If you feel that it's beyond that, then treatment is completely viable. TBut also know that the brain is plastic and when you apply a pressure to it, it's going to change…. so drugs are in a way, an "influence" on behavior, just like an environment is… just as a stable house hold, or a rural farm, or a metropolitan setting.

these drugs are not a "cure" just like drugs for hypertension are not a "cure"… but you have a degree of control over your brain… more so than for your blood pressure (so to speak).

anyway we can have debates about this for hours. I for one think the drugs are viable, but I don't encourage their use.

Since this hasn't been mentioned.

Ritalin is a scary drug. It can work as either a upper or a downer. Depending upon brain chemistry. And because it is such a strong drug it is controlled. It's also scary because no one really knows it's side effects.

One important point to consider. Ritalin actually increases your blood pressure which increases your odds of developing some kind of cardiovascular condition. In some people depending upon how their internal organs react will have a heart attack or something similar.

Sometime last year the USDA issued warnings about this after several youth had heart attacks and such.

Now I'm not saying don't use Ritalin. Before using it take the time and research it. Plus if you do take pay close attention to how your body reacts.

I knew someone back at UVic who took it to help them study. I think it was an engineer. Or maybe it was someone Iheard about.

At any rate, I guess it can help you concentrate and study effectively, if you haven't honed those skills already. But it's only what I've heard.

And, I like what Mr. charles had to say.
