Amazon getting gubmint subsidies is not right.

Any corp getting subsidies is not right, unless they're startups that have a large upside.

Apparently Tesla gets a lot of government subsidies.

One can always back a statement up with facts and data!!

https://subsidytracker.goodjobsfirst.org/top-100-parents

At least with Tesla, the subsidy is going toward a forward-looking venture, rather than companies that contribute to our environmental problems, like most of the others in the list.

Right? Like it's not hard to look objectively at the greater good Tesla is working towards vs the status quo of everything else.

Okay, so I can see the government wanting to keep jobs / manufacturing in country and giving big corporations & large employers tax breaks in order to do that. But how much is too much? The workers of those companies will make a wage, spend some money, stimulate the economy etc. Perhaps the question is, is it worth it?

GMB investigations into Amazon working practices have revealed

More than 600 ambulance call outs to Amazon warehouses over a three year period.

More than 600 serious incidents reported to the Health and Safety Executive for injuries including fractures, head injuries, contusions and collisions with heavy equipment

GMB members report targets being so horrific they have to use plastic bottles to urinate in instead of going to the toilet, and pregnant women have been forced to stand for hours on end

At least one pregnant woman reporting losing a pregnancy at work, saying an ambulance was not called, and she went home on the bus, with her co-workers in blood stained clothes

87% of Amazon workers responding to that survey said that were in some form of constant pain in their body joints.

AMAZON, Seattle, Washington; California, Maryland and Texas

Six worker deaths in seven months; 13 deaths since 2013. Reports of a high incidence of suicide attempts; workers urinating in bottles and workers left without resources or income after on-the-job injuries. The company was also a “Dirty Dozen” entry in 2018.

Heck no.   They have great prices and services.

As for the number of deaths, how about some stats from other companies that employ 650,000 workers.

Almost every company that size has a union, for a reason. Once they finalize the automatons, they'll be set.

I still choose brick & mortar shopping. I rarely order anything online. Old school.

Also, people who bad mouth unions should realize that without unions, creeps like Bezos can get away with anything. How long before under-age kids are working in factories again? What's next, will weekends disappear?

This, couldn’t agree more. And considering your last couple posts, cheer up man.🤘

I don't really trust any of the super-ambitious big business geniuses to be altruistic to their employees (most of them are total assholes), but you didn't refute what Adam West was saying.  America needs far better laws to protect regular people, we all know that, and any business competing with the big boys is using the tax loops holes and weak employment standards to keep costs down at the expense of everyone else, we all know that too, but tax incentives should be for promoting industries just like carbon taxes should be used to punish polluters.  If you want your country to be ahead of the pack in AI for example, you subsidize it heavily and get the best people.  One thing doesn't negate the other.

He can flee to Mars all he wants, but we can at least recognize it will be his trailblazing that gets humans there in our lifetimes.

“It is disgraceful that Amazon would terminate an employee who bravely stood up to protect himself and his colleagues. At the height of a global pandemic, Chris Smalls and his colleagues publicly protested the lack of precautions that Amazon was taking to protect them from COVID-19. Today, Chris Smalls was fired. In New York, the right to organize is codified into law, and any retaliatory action by management related thereto is strictly prohibited. At a time when so many New Yorkers are struggling and are deeply concerned about their safety, this action was also immoral and inhumane. The Office of the Attorney General is considering all legal options, and I am calling on the National Labor Relations Board to investigate this incident.”
