Yah … that starting price of $750k USD for the printer may be a little out of range for the home hobbyist!

Not if that home hobbyist is here on study from China and owns a 16 million dollar home and Lambo by Jericho Beach.
In any case, you can probably rent out free time on it to pay-as-you-print customers.

Woops … maybe I'll hold on to those $$$ for now …

3D printed titanium suffers from porosity that can cause breakage, CMU study reveals

Titanium alloys can be found everywhere nowadays. Being extremely strong, lightweight and resistant to corrosion and high temperatures, its used in everything from military equipment to commercial jets and tennis rackets. What’s more, thanks to 3D printing the costly material can be used more effectively and on a smaller scale. But a new study by researchers from the Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) suggests that 3D printing inserts several flaws into the material, which can decrease the material's resistance to fatigue and lead to breakage. The solution might be in the powder’s production process.

This has become apparent from a study led by Anthony Rollett, Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at CMU. The study also included graduate students Ross Cunningham and Tugce Ozturk, and Professor of Mechanical Engineering Jack Beuth. They have already published their findings in The Journal of The Minerals, Metals [HTML_REMOVED] Materials Society.

The problem is, they say, that powder-based 3D printing techniques increase the material’s porosity. The 3D printed parts feature miniscule pores, which can affect the overall quality of the component, making it less strong than titanium alloy parts made with other production techniques. “Having a strong understanding of the fundamental science of additive manufacturing materials is necessary in order to use them in aerospace and other demanding applications,” says Beuth.

What CAD/CAM/modeling software are you using?

Fusion360 is free for personal use.

I tried google sketchup … did not like, the search goes on. Was going to give 123D a shot, it seems to be pretty popular and also free to use. Will have a good look at the fusion app as well.

Fusion is more like Solidworks compared to something like SketchUp.

You could also see if you can still get a free spot in OnShape, not sure if they are still doing a limited space free usage.

Buy one … I'll scan it! I noticed that they are planning to offer the STL files for sale, too.

Could even mod for fat bikes.
