New season, and it  looks like Mercedes has the best pace again, despite Vettel winning the opener. But the top 3 look to be closer. Halo is mandatory, Ferrari threatening to leave unless Liberty Media placates them. Does anyone here watch this besides me? (Is starting a new thread allowed now, lol?)

Apparently Ferrari was faster in the straights and Mercedes faster in the corners.  Probably using less down force.  Hamilton's speed in a couple of the turns was really fast.

I'm watching. I love it still despite the Halo and boring sound.

I think the front end will still be Mercedes with Ferrari picking up more wins but still only when Mercedes don't get it right.

The mid-field looks a lot more interesting though. McLaren should be on the way up. Haas showed promise. Renault weren't terrible either. Remains to be seen where Redbull can drag themselves to (best of the rest or actually in the top three) and the prospect of Honda miraculously figuring out the engine does not seem too likely after round 1...

Haas looked strong. Let's hope they figure out  their pit stops.

Couple of good races. Bahrain had some decent action and Ricciardo's surge at the end of China was great to watch.

Ricky-ardo is the best over taker in the field. Ferrari still up on pace on the rest. Red Bull got the tire strategy right & the safety car timing helped.

Vettel blew it near the end there at Baku. He prolly could have won if he'd not went into that corner so hot. Verstappen continues to be an asshole. Drivers are not allowed to block like he does. Tough luck for Bottas driving over that debris. Baku's street circuit generally makes for a good race.

Lol, Ricky-ardo was your best overtaker last race, not so clever this time out eh?

Yup, I've only been watching it since the James Hunt era (seriously!)

BTW: I'm a big fan of Ricciardo but it was inevitable that was going to happen eventually...

Well then you know this has become Verstappen's trademark. At first he was young & that may have been an excuse at the time, but he has too much time in the seat to be doing that now. He should know you can't keep blocking left & right. He knew Ricciardo had better pace, so let him by after a few tries. Better than taking each other out. If I was Ferrari, I'd retire Kimi after this year & sign Danny Ric.

So we're agreed cos everyone knows Verstappens trademark shuffles in the braking zone means it was gonna happen eventually? I applaud Red Bull for letting their drivers race but either the team or the stewards need to throw the rule book at Max...

Ferrari always have a designated #1 and a subservient #2. Pretty sure Danny doesn't want to find himself moving over to let Seb thru...the Ferrari #2 slot is somewhere nice to finish off the last couple of years of your career, not somewhere for a potential WC

Well I can't see him with Red Bull again. Not unless they agree that Max is to be a clear number 2. Perhaps Mercedes will take him on? He is strong lately & is in a position to get what he wants.

Just when I get down on Kimi, he comes up with a good performance like today. I am torn between wanting Leclerc in that seat next year or Kimi. I don't think Vettel wants Danny Ric as a team mate ( and Ferrari knows that), & I think this season should prolly be Kimi's last, so I guess :Leclerc will get the seat next season.

Worst possible outcome of the German GP for Vettel & Ferrari. I'd have thought he'd be the last guy in the field to make that mistake. Handing over the lead in the championship to your biggest rival has got to hurt big time. If Seb had won, it would be extremely likely he'd win the title this year. Oh well, at least they have the fastest car right now & it's only half way thru the season.
