I wouldn't say that's a good thing if we meet them again in the playoffs.

We don't want to meet them again in the playoffs.

So Edler just got a 3 game suspension. Can anyone besides Shanahan explain why?

I can guaran-fucking-tee you that if Edler was on the Leafs or the Bruins there would be no suspension. I'm starting to think the Canucks are specifically targeted by the league. Hertl dropped his head down, what is Edler supposed to safely do? You're going to see guys getting hurt trying to to avoid hitting people now.

Wrong. Always.

I have questioned the length of suspensions before, but this should never have made it to the phone call stage. 100% bullshit.

Repeat offender? So one more strike and he's permanently suspended?

Honest question: is Edler considered a repeat offender for this kind of stuff? I hadn't really thought he'd fit in that category.

I saw the hit, looked pretty nasty at first glance, but Edler was in motion, so I don't know that he could have done a lot to change things. He did sort of twist his shoulder a bit higher than normal, hard to tell whether that was for defensive or offensive purposes.

Hertl also slowed down and crouched lower to reach for puck and if he had stayed skating Edler would have hit him in the shoulder. Not much Edler could have done differently.

Edler did not rise up, let alone leave the ice in any fashion.

They have different rules for different players.

See? That's not being rational. We need someone clever and rational to 1. talk me down, 2. think of a plan and 3. talk me off.

Wrong. Always.

He got a very arguable suspension last season for knocking over the Coyote's goalie behind the net, and at the World's for knee on knee contact with Staal (which will carry over to the Olympics). Not sure if IIHF suspensions are considered a prior offence in the NHL.

Ah yeah, I do remember the knee on knee thing. I remember thinking at the time it seemed out of character for the guy.

Re-watching the vid, Hertl was scrunched super low. Knees and waist bent and head down. I really don't think Edler had a lot of choices there. Given some of the recent hits that didn't result in suspension, I really think Shans went way over the top here.

Hertl did it again tonight. Talk about repeat victims. But this time he got hurt. The kid skates with his head down. Canucks should send this tape to Shanahan to reinforce that fucked up on Edler's suspension
