Gagner/Purcell swap doesn't sound bad. But then the Lightning turn around and trade Gagner + Crombeen for a 6th rounder? That is not much of a return for a half decent goal scorer.

Not Canucks related, but my mate Ryan's younger brother just became the first Australian to ever be drafted to the NHL. Nathan Walker, 89th pick to the Washington Capitals!!

He's the Aussie version of (Victoria BC's) Mike Pyke!

Miller at 6 mill/year for 3years.

I guess "Its Miller Time!" is a great marketing strategy

He's been a great goalie in the past. Hopefully he'll have something to prove and keep the fire stoked.

Any more than 3 years and I would have been a bit unimpressed. He was the best available and what they needed just not long term.

Anything good that happens next year I'll consider gravy but things are looking more positive anyway.

Srly? You wouldn't have wanted to go with Hillier at 1.5mil less per year?
Although it'll have to be seen which team ruins which goalie first…

Maybe he didn't want to come to Van. Maybe Cal got that offer in first and Van would have had to counter higher. Lots of behind the scenes we have no clue about.

Could Hiller handle Van's know nothing douche fans and talk radio hosts better than Miller?

For 1.5mil less a year? Ya that may be better. I guess we'll see how it pans out.

You seem to forget Vancouvers reputation as a goalie graveyard. Here's hoping Miller proves it wrong.

Miller [HTML_REMOVED][HTML_REMOVED] Hillier I think he is worth the 1.5 difference.

Hiller 2.51 GAA, .916 Sv %
Miller 2.59, 0.915

Miller did it while playing for Buffalo and Hiller playing for Anaheim. Unfortunately, I think Van will look a lot more like Buffalo than Anaheim for a while yet.

Plus:
Noureen DeWulf anyone?

Miller wins.

Yeah, be a tough one to compare, as both goalies played on teams that were on the opposite ends of both the standings, and continents.
Hard to compare this season again though, does Calgary get relegated to the AHL or is that only soccer?;)

The Avs signed Iggy, and traded for Briere???dafuct??? 8mil+/yr tied up in 2 forwards 37yrs old. Be interesting to see where they fit into the lineup, and how those two do in the west.

I love Iggy but I would have been unimpressed if the Nucks gave him what the Avs did.

Same. The FA frenzy can yield dubious results. If you need one last piece for a cup push then it makes sense to overspend on a hired gun or mentor for a season or 2 but how much would Iggy change the Canucks. Not enough IMO.
