Most "good" bike shops dont have someone who can fit you well on a road bike, never mind the equivalent of costco for sporting goods.
Just because a wrench knows how to true wheels doesnt mean he knows how to fit a bike according to KOPS.
If they had any pride in themselves, or any real desire or drive they would find a real bike shop job. Where being able to build a bike in 20 minutes but leave it with no functioning brakes is a liability not a skill.
my kid left the bike shop [HTML_REMOVED] went to sportchek for the fall/winter ,as opposed to reduced winter hours .He could make 13$ an hour 40hrs a week if he pushed alot of stuff before xmas. After xmas when sales slowed they made him a ski tech so he still gets 40hrs … everyone got along [HTML_REMOVED] everything was cool
come spring they asked him to bike tech and he lasted 2 weeks ,told em sorry I just can't work in this environment, the way they do things, the type of customers ,the things that get by…went back to a real bike shop
used road bikes are often in great shape , unless there is a serious roadie in a shop the may not know how to fit you exactly AND some brands are gona fit slightly different
FIT is THE most important thing followed by a stiff modern frame and at least 105 STI components in my opinion
