Nope. The Polar PM is the "poor dude's/chick's powertap". I don't own one, but I believe there are raging debates about how accurate the Polar method is (it uses some funky chain vibration method to indirectly measure chain tension and speed which it then converts into Watts). See

or google polar power meters (or polar power output sensor):

The serious guys use a Powertap (hub) or SRM (crank) for measuring watts.

I have no experience with either.

As a competitor for SRM the Ergomo is gaining popularity in Europe, it's another german made bottom bracket replacement power meter. Square taper so most commonly used with Chorus or Record cranks. They're a lot less expensive than SRM, around 800 euros, and just as accurate.

Garmin makes a HR monitor with GPS that my dad uses, he likes it a lot. You can link it to google earth and map your route, which is pretty sweet.

That is very impressive. A friend of my wife is a member of the randonneurs riding club and on the weekend she did the 300 km ride in 16.5 hours. I was super impressed and I am thinking of doing the 600 km ride with her next year. For those who are wondering how far 300 km is, it is from my house in Coquitlam to Merritt! Geez.

It could be worse…you could be on fire.
