Holy. Top 2 favorites now out due to crashes. When has this happened in recent memory.

Wasn't there one year in the 90's that was bad for crashes?

Winning the TDF GC is really, really hard. Crashes, weather, equipment failure, tactical mistakes, illness, nutrition, psychology, over-exertion simply at the wrong place/wrong time - not just of the contender but of each rider in his entire team - come into play. And winning it multiple times is mind-blowingly difficult (even when you are doped up and cheating).

As I understand it, Contador rode up a Cat 1 climb with a broken tibia? Unreal. Never broken that bone before but still…

I have broken the tib and that is unreal. A new definition of HTFU + some serious horse tranquilizers.

Contador claims that his lower sprockets were plugged up with mud so he had to ride in to high a gear.

I suppose a squirt from his water bottle would involve too much thinking.

I am a bit late to the party, but do this year's TdF riders still dope? No one seems to talk about it, but since Lance I would think that the cyclists either stopped doping or became much more ingenious about hiding it. Thoughts?

Only winners dope.

Nibali is looking very strong.

I'd say probably … its interesting (won't name names) how some riders appear out of nowhere for a GT and then are very average thereafter and go to being nowhere close to contending. I guess you can argue its no more or less suspicious than guys in the past who kept winning year after year after year.
