Suggestions for flat 200 km loop in Lower Mainland

Any ideas for a 200 km reasonably flat, scenic, low-car traffic loop with few traffic lights starting and ending on the North Shore?

Is there a roadie-friendly way to get from Marine Drive and Granville to the flatlands of Richmond and Delta?

I have a nice North Shore loop that runs from Deep Cove to Horsehoe Bay, back through Stanley Park, English Bay, over to UBC, and down Marine Drive, back again to UBC and then back to Deep Cove through Stanley Park - I can stretch it out to about 130 km. How good is the Sea-to-Sky for riding these days (Squamish or Whistler)? It looks pretty scary from a car, especially if you start bonking and get the wobbles going. Plus I'm not into inhaling auto exhaust. D.

You'd have to be nuts to ride the sea to sky on a bike… people on cellphones paying no attention to the road combined with many sections that have no shoulder. gah!

It's sort of lower mainland, if you want a low traffic ride and don't mind going through the border, drive your car to white rock, park it at the shopping mall at 16th ave and 152nd, and ride to Bellingham. It's about 42km from white rock to bham, flat, and the locals in Blaine can direct you to the low traffic roads. Almost everyone in a car takes the I-5 freeway to go south. On some rides I've been passed by a total of four cars, on a saturday afternoon.

Take a look at that link. The peninsula on the left hand side with the Semiahmoo golf and country club has good roads and is really low traffic. Ride in a loop around there, go south through birch bay to Grandview, and then east on Grandview and turn south to Ferndale. Ask the locals for directions, they'll be really helpful. From Ferndale ride south to Marine Drive and into Bellingham on the south side of the airport. If you want a really long ride, keep going all the way down Chuckanut drive to Skagit county and turn around.

It's almost exactly 100km to go from Blaine to Sumas and back, directly east, via country roads. All of the traffic is going north-south to the Guide Meridian Lynden border crossing, there's very little West-East traffic. The Birch Bay Lynden Road from the ocean to its eastern end is a good route.

As you can see from the map here it's mostly farmland similar to Delta or Richmond:

Dunno about crossing the border … the big appeal for me wth road riding is to walk out my front door with a cellphone and credit card and a couple of tools, spare tube, hop on the bike and go ride for 3,4,5 hours and end back at home. D.

I agree,I don't want to dive my car to go for a road ride. I ride the same Route as you,Horseshoe Bay, Stanley Park, UBC ,etc.To add another 30-40K to that I go over the Authur Lang,go out to the Iona sewer jetty (stink Island) and back, then I do the vet ride in reverse,if you don't know it go to the end of No.1 road and make the last left before you hit Stevston (the village of Stevston not the road Stevston Hwy) then a few right and left's,go along the river as far as you can go,then head North to stevston Hwy.Head east over the overpass, first left head north again.I don't know the name of all the streets but you basically come out at the River Rock Casino.Sorry if you have done this ride a million times.

I think Lions Bay,Squamish,Whistler is out or a while, so many pilons right on the edge of the road, you always be right in the lane. It's to bad I love the ride to lions Bay,their is a great coffee shop above the Hwy in Lions bay with a great view of Howe Sound.

I like Barnet Hwy, over Pitt R bridge, onto Dewdney Trunk Rd then Lougheed to Mission and beyond. There are ways to get through Pt Moody, Coq, PoCo without dealing with too much traffic. Dewdney is pretty nice most of the time, and you can add a loop through Golden Ears for quiet and scenery.

From my place in Norf Burnaby out to the west border of Mission and back is a 120 km loop. Pretty easy to extend that out to add the extra km's.

There are hills but they're all short and not too steep, so not exactly flat, but not that bad either.

Ride up the Valley sounds like a plan. I don't ever consider riding east starting from the Cove, but it makes a lot of sense to cross over the Second Narrows and head up the Valley. D.
