Steel Cross Bikes with Discs?
Why the hate, 'skid?
I can't help it if I look so damn good that people always take photos for posterity. :)

He wishes he looked that good.
no hate from here 'gear . . . just caught my wife lingering on that pic a bit too long .
who knows what she's looking at when i'm not around to supervise her computer time ?
Awesome, I least know that beach day at the races was not in vain.:clap:
I used the Clement USH with success last year for that type of riding. Lots of tread in the center, and little nubs for the off paved riding. Lots of shops have wire bead take off of them too, which make them nice and cheap too. Mighty had a ton in there last time I was in.
those look good, thanks
Anybody ridden the Surly Straggler or Soma Double Cross? Thoughts, reviews?
Any other bikes that are comparable I should consider?

Not steel, but still gets me hard.
Got delivery of my Naked X frame last month (http://timetogetnaked.com/gallery/introducing-the-naked-x/2013/10/28).
Built up with Stan's Crest wheels, Sram Red crankset, Sram Force 10 sp rear shifter/brake and Sram single speed front brake, X9 clutch RD, Race Face N/W 38t ring, sram 11-36 cassette, Thomson post, stem, and KFC bar, WTB silverado ti railed seat, King headset. Was running 40mm Clement X'Plor MSOs in the photo, but running 35mm Racing Ralphs for cross season now.
Bike is 20lbs, 7oz, and shreds accordingly. Super stoked.

How'd you decide on your gearing? I went 2x with a 46/36t chainset and a 12-30t cassette. I'm hoping I'm not over/under geared.
Nice bike BTW.
re: gearing. I wanted to go 1x10, with a narrow wide chainring and clutch derailleur, basically a ghetto CX1 drivetrain. the smallest Race Face N/W cross ring I could get was 38t. Wolftooth offers a 36t, but the RF was cheaper. Since I was running a mtb derailleur for the clutch, I figured might as well get as much range as I could, as outside of cross season I will be using this bike to ride logging roads, which are effing steep in spots, so I went with a 12-36 cassette. I can ride some pretty steep grades with the 38-36, so low end shouldn't be a problem. I am not concerned with top end. On my Kona I was running a 1x drivetrain with a 36t chainring and 12-30 cassette. I would spin out at 55+ km/hr, which is plenty fast for the roads I ride.

good grief tom that thing is awesome!
Practicality: It is all fine to have a race only cross bike, but I think this is a bit silly. A couple of extra holes in the frame for fenders and water bottles and suddenly, you have a bike that can do so much more with no compromise to its competition worthiness. Fender mounts dont mean your not a real x racer, they simply mean you are willing to ride for hours in horrible weather while everyone else gets soft. In BC, fenders mean your a bad-ass.
fuck yeah :rocker:

Cool, sounds like the 46-36 I'm running will be more than enough for what I'll be riding the bike for. Flat bars, hydraulic discs, CX front, MTB rear drivetrain. Should be interesting. Building mine this week, pics to come.
