Ryder Hesjedal has been tossed the opportunity of a lifetime after Christian Vandevelde broke 2 ribs during a crash in Stage 2 of the Tour De France. With the boss gone, looks like Ryder is now the go-to guy, especially after his epic ride yesterday (Stage 3) on the cobblestones:
Team boss Jonathan Vaughters was reluctant to put any pressure on Hesjedal: [HTML_REMOVED]#8220;We have to see but he[HTML_REMOVED]#8217;s certainly our best and only GC option. We[HTML_REMOVED]#8217;ll see how it goes,[HTML_REMOVED]#8221; he said.
Hesjedal's specialties are listed as "time trialist" and "climber", but he is so much more than than. For what its worth, he is holding down 4th place, with a long, long ways to go. Maybe he will provide some company for his fellow MTB world champion, Cadel Evans on the podium.
