I raced B category last year and XC bikes were quite competitive there too. That said, XC racing is really tough, and anyone with experience doing it would have an advantage in CX. A 24 pound XC bike with bigger tires, disc brakes, and 80 or 100mm of travel is not really a disadvantage compared to a 20 pound CX bike on some courses.

That pumpkin course would be fun on a single speed 29er.

Wrong. Always.

There were some really sticky sections that would have been hell on a single speed, but I guess that's why people ride single speed 29ers, right?

Without a doubt. It is basically all flat with a few very short sections up and down a dyke. Good times though.

Very likely yes, I will be racing the Pumpkin Cross again this year in a costume of some sort and a bike that will stick out like a sore thumb.

too big and too expensive . . . 600 , uh way out of my budget .

maybe there is some collector out there who MAY appreciate the bike for what it is , but i have a feeling he is either ( a ) going to have to drastically reduce his reserve , or ( b ) set it up for his son to ride

if he was anywhere near serious about selling it for that price he should have at least put some time in to prep it to reflect its' past racing glory .

but hey 'mil , keep looking . . .

I admit, I'm still mad that my 2002 RM Rail chainstay failed. And there was no way to fix it.

Now i really want to get my hands on a cross bike again. If only to further numb the pain of riding in the Canadian MTB Rectum that is Onterrible.

I think I might race on my HT. Need to get a new costume, I just threw out my pimp costume from last years halloween Vedder ride.

Drop bars are drop bars. Don't forget you'd have to change your brakes and shifters as well.

That much I figured, i was more concerned with angles and such.

Drop bars come in numerous sizes shapes and configurations. I prefer the ultra short reach and short drop FSA compact or TTT versions. I am short and it used to be that riding the drops was painful. Now I can ride the drops easily for pretty long distances without extraordinary neck issues. The alternative is to have the bars too high for the hood position just to ride drops.

Debate? Bikes are made for riding not pushing.
