I had an interesting conversation with my buddy. He taled with the Shimano rep recently about the Di2's. He said that the shifter hoods are completely hollow and a master cyclinder could easily fit in.

heres a really dumb question… does anyone ever race on flats? i mean, i know there's significant sections where clipless are better… and i guess the people that race CX are used to clipless… but just curious.. (and wanting to bump the thread)

I'll try an catch this and few others with the totally unofficial and completely biased rules of cx racing:
- pedals are clipped in,
- shoes have a mountain cleat,
- tires are glued on,
- lycra is one piece,
- bottle cages [HTML_REMOVED] cambelbacks are left off,
- tires are 700x32,
- bars are road drops.
Rip up any rules when it comes to monster/hillbilly cx tomfoolery - so rockout on your flats/discs/camelbacks on mary bars all day with a case of IPA in the creek and few issue of Dirt Rag if that's what gets you outta bed.
I'm just sayin'..

on another note. im trying to decide between a 54 or 57 cm frame. im 5'11, and have a 32.5 inch inseam. any input? what sort of standover clearance should i be looking for (if any)?
(im slightly leaning toward the smaller frame, but worried thats a mistake)

that was helpful.. but im worried. at almost 6'0, getting a 54 seems wrong??
A 54 what? each frame manu is different.
You are doing the measurements right, inseam is not your pant size.
And yes 54 does seem small for you.
Edit: found it You might fit in between the gap of a 54 and 57 ( which is a huge gap for a road bike) Find a different manufacture that makes the right size to fit you.
