and there goes cav…

edit: http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/mark-cavendish-leaves-tour-de-france-to-focus-on-olympic-games/

I understand why… but still feels lame.

Im actually surprised he held out as long as he did. With pretty much nothing but mountain stages and an individual time trial remaining, he would be crazy to haul himself over the alps and potentially ruin his olympic chances.

i'm surprised after all the years of the running of the tdf (ha!) that there always seems to be no shortage of fuckwits clogging up the streets and impeding the race or disturbing the riders.

it's only a matter of time till a rider gets seriously hurt because of those knobs.

The reason behind all this was they had to cut the finish 6km short due to a storm. So all those people had to move somewhere, and they didnt have time to erect barricades inside the last two k's like they would normally have.

So will Cavendouche have his team pull him the whole way so he can poach the win? Or is Olympic cycling more individual?

Looks like no one is going to catch Fromme. Richie Porte couldn't drop him and Quintana exploded this morning. Blows me away how strong he is, the guy is so slight in build. You would think after two weeks he would lose so much weight that he would just fizzle out. I guess we will see what happens in the last three climbing stages.

As much as I'm not really a Cav fan (he comes across like a bit of a dick)… you can't not respect the guy at least a little. He's competitive as all hell and it shows.

He's been training for the track if I remember correctly, hence the reason he's so damn strong on the flat sprints. I think he's doing a few team track events in Rio, but it'll be very different compared to a team road race…

That said, cav is no different than kittel/greipel/coquard/the rest of the pure sprinters. They get towed to the line, then lay down a shit ton of power… that's how it works.

Sagan is just a freak of nature who gets shit done without a lead-out train.

edit: that twitter post was hilarious. Love seeing Martin go for his long rides… reminds of me of the jensie.

Yeah, except Jens' style on a bike was atrocious whereas Tony is poetry in motion. Tony Martin is so smooth.

Debate? Bikes are made for riding not pushing.

I think the most interesting story to watch now is the Yates/Quintana duel. With only a few seconds apart in GC, will Quintana take over 3rd for a podium spot in Paris? Nairo clawed a few second back in today's TT.

Unreal ride from Froome today. He has this thing wrapped up IMO.

Nice to see Greipel get the win and keep his streak going. Pretty close for Sagan, it would be nice to see what he could do with a proper lead out.

Not a bad tour, especially the first week, it's too bad no one could really challenge Froome and the Sky machine.

Sagan almost had him, backwheel was sliding all over the place. Greipel looked like he was going to rip his bike in two , congrats to him, great finish. Best stage was today, loved the speed.

I thought overall the tour was a bit boring, no one attacked team sky. Quintana ia rumoured to have been sick during the alp stages.
I just want to see the yellow jersey change hands more. Hopefully next year it is a bit closer.

It's that chainring, man. :shhh:
Seems they're gonna' have to take it away or give everbody one.

They're gonna' have to institute a draft, just like most other pro team sports do.

Looks like yesterday Froome was nothing without his Sky team. That was one of the best bike races I have ever seen.

meh… froome isn't a single day racer… look at who won. A classics specialist. Surprised to see majka near the front, and stoked for fuglsang… he's a great all-arounder who's worked his ass off for those Italians.

I expect that Froome was working for Geraint Thomas to paying back for all the work he did for him in the Tour. I think that he only went for it when they realized that Thomas might not have what it takes to get it done.

I was an amazing race.

Super fun to watch… but is it just me, or were the commentators (at least on the CBC online feed) the worst in sporting history? The amount of times they said 'dig deep'…

… the worst.

The worst is an understatement…. Fucking brutal is more like it. They replayed it on NBC later that day. Had the British Guy who always does the TDF and I think Eric Hyden or someone. Was miles better
