Interesting similarities. Even the colour ways are the same.

Rivendell will gladly sell you your simple down tube mounted shifter rim brake bike into the next 50 years.
Better than having to pull over to bleed your brake on a 250 km road ride.
Road bikes do not need disc brakes. Really. They don't.
Um. Here's what the OP posted:
Use:
winter training (riding up the sea-to-sky on the shitty shoulder),
commuting (9km each way),
might do the occasional camping overnighter with loaded panniers,
might do some logging road exploring.
Discs are an excellent idea for his intended uses.

Maybe so, but I want…. :-)
(Actually, when you're 6'4" and 200lb and regularly ride down Skyline Dr and other super steep roads in the rain,I'd argue I do need discs)
I have a different road bike for Sunday Best rides and I can get by without discs on that…just

Discs are absolutely the right choice for your application. I will never go back to white knuckling the levers on rain descents, or wiping down rims after every wet ride.
