2 Canucks/BC boys in the Tour d'Italia this year. Ryder Hesjedal (Garmin) and Svein Tuft (Orica). Would be nice to see Tuft have his Cinderella moment and get a solo win at a GT stage (he has a TeamTT stage win from TDF2013).

Aside from a few short/sharp attacks in the Classics, I've heard almost nothing about Ryder.

Anybody know if he's planning another stealth assault on the Giro? Flying under the radar or just not a contender any more?

Would love to see a solo stage win from Tuft.

The team Orica youtube video's are awesome.

Looking at the Giro route this year it looks like it'll be a race for second if Quintana has good form. Some epic mountain stages.

Woohooo … Svein Tuft leads the 1st place Orica train. Commentator said Tuft coming up for a birthday interview. Garmin had a brutal run, crash losing Dan Martin and 3+ minutes behind.

Svein is such a humble guy, nice to see a good guy like him in Pink for the first day!

Very excited to see Svein do well. As a casual follower of the pros I only check in a couple of times a year for the big races. Last I heard about Svein was Lanterne Rouge at last years Tour de France. Lantern Rouge is no small feat. Leader's Jersey at the Giro - "Priceless"

Nice looking ride for Tuft today:

This is a cool detail, a graphic summarizing every stage of the Giro:

Orica says Tuft is still pretty banged up from his wreck last week, so won't be putting max effort into the ITT tomorrow. Too bad, as he was obviously in pretty good TT form at the start of the race.

Ryder's slowly creeping up the GC with a strong ride today. He's up to 12th now in the GC. He'd easily be in the top 10 if Garmin Sharp didn't crash in the TTT. If he can hold steady in the mountains (a pretty big 'if'), he may end up doing OK, all things considered. Like he had a 2+ minute handicap behind all the contenders from the get-go and he was never supposed to lead the team in the Giro. I wonder if he'll race the TDF. If so he's probably better off trying to win a stage rather than secure a top 10 GC finish, and save something for the TDF.

Ryder takes second in today's mountain stage, now at 9th in GC.

Quintana is in good form, eh?

To bad Ryder lost all that time in the TTT. He could have been a contender.
