We're holding a women's only enduro style mountain bike race up in Squamish BC on August 4, 2012 followed by cocktails, a buffet dinner and dancing at The Living Room.

Profits from this event will be donated to Go Girls! Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds, a mentoring program that encourages physical activity, healthy eating and the development of a positive self image among young girls, run by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Squamish.

Riders will be timed from start to finish, as well as 2 stages of descents in between. This means those of you not fond of the uphill can take your time to the top and then when you’re ready, pin it to the bottom. And those of you not so keen on the descents can take your time on the tricky steep parts but pedal your butts off on the climbs. In the end, it’s all about having a fun day out with other fantastic ladies and giving back to young girls in Squamish.

Volunteers – Because this is so much more than just a bike race
Sorry ladies, we’re not interested in help from the female side. MALE VOLUNTEERS ONLY! We want to make sure all of our ladies are well taken care of so we will have a handful of lucky men assisting our riders throughout the day. There will be limited volunteer positions available and the only way to sign up for volunteering is to email [email protected].

Registration is now open. http://www.sorca.ca/hot-on-your-heels/ There are limited spots so sign up early! Cost for the race will be $50 for all SORCA members (see below for details on the after party). If you are NOT a SORCA member for 2012, you will be able to purchase a one day insurance for $20. (For SORCA members, the insurance is already included in your membership fees).

The Course

Check in at the bottom of Half Nelson beginning at 9am with the race starting at 10:00am. Riders will climb up the Ring Creek FSR to to the top of Angry Midget. You will then come down Angry Midget and turn left at the road to head back towards the bottom of Half Nelson crossing over into Fool’s Gold (this is where you may see ‘Another Man’s Gold’ on the trail maps, Fool’s Gold is the blue line almost directly across the street from Half Nelson). When you reach the bridge (Darwin’s Crossing) head uphill to STP. STP has an initial pedal and then descent followed by a switchback climb. Although this climb may be hot and tiring in the August sun, there will be a few gentlemen at the top waiting for you with fresh fruit and refreshments. If you aren’t worried about your overall time, feel free to kick back here for a while and chat up the boys. When ready, (yes, you must leave at some point) you will then head right and onto Hoods in the Woods. After Hoods in the Woods head through Poop Alley and onto Carpenter Son’s Bridge and the finish line where you will be treated to yummy refreshments and tasty snacks courtesy of our local Nesters Market.

There will be an overall time from start to finish and 2 stages in between. The first timed descent will be from the top of Angry Midget to the bottom. The second timed descent will take place on Hoods in the Woods and will begin at the left hand turn rock at the beginning of the longer descent. All trails are considered ‘intermediate’ and rated ‘blue’.

Sorca’s two divisions of ladies rides, the Chicks n Chains and The Gravity Girlz will be holding a few rides prior to the event to help you out with the tricky sections. The first pre-ride by the Gravity Girlz is set for June 23rd. Meet at the bottom of Half Nelson at 9:30am.

This is so much more than a bike ‘race’, it is about having fun with your friends, making new friends and embracing the amount of women who love to mountain bike! Please do not be intimidated to sign up, you will have an amazing time and I guarantee a few laughs along the way.

The Party

There aren’t too many opportunities for the ladies to break out their heels in Squamish but this is one of them! Dust off those dresses ladies and let’s party!

The after party will be held at The Living Room located at The Executive Suites Hotel [HTML_REMOVED] Resort beginning at 6PM for all riders and volunteers. We do have a maximum capacity for the room so initially this is only open to women who raced and the volunteers. If this changes, depending on the # of women signed up, we will open it up to others as well one month beforehand (July 4th). So the best way to ensure your spot is to race or volunteer. Tickets for the after party will be extra to cover food costs. The Living Room will prepare an amazing buffet and a raffle will be held for all kinds of fancy prizes with proceeds going to Go Girls! There will be tunes, a dance floor and for those of you that may be coming from out of town or would just like to indulge, The Executive Suites Hotel [HTML_REMOVED] Resort is offering a Hot Escapes special on rooms for $119. Call them directly to book (1-877-815-0048).

The Living Room after party and buffet dinner add on for $20 +HST and gratuity ($26.43)
