found this interesting site on the philosphy of food.

there's some good reading here if you're interested in this sort of thing.

The role of philosophy is to cut through the morass of contingent facts and conceptual muddle to tackle the most basic questions about food: What is it exactly? How do we know it is safe? What should we eat? How should food be distributed? What is good food? These are simple yet difficult questions because they involve philosophical questions about metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, politics, and aesthetics. Other disciplinary approaches may touch on these questions concerning food but only philosophy addresses them explicitly. Once we have a clear understanding of philosophy’s unique role, we’ll all be in a better position to engage in dialogue aimed at improving our knowledge, practices, and laws. We should also gain a renewed appreciation for the scope and relevance of the discipline of philosophy itself.

We don't know what our limits are, so to start something with the idea of being limited actually ends up limiting us.

I think that everyone who is serious about training and leading a lifestyle that is worthwhile will eventually come to the point where food is "more than just food". It has to do with quality and how you want to live.

As stated in the definition of Food Philosophy, it should do more than just the (small scale) rights and responsibilities of consumers. In any given worldview that is holistic in its approach to live, food is more than just the stuff that makes you feel warm, satiated and fulfilled.

I remember reading an article on T-Nation about an interview with Paul Chek (google him if you have never heard the name)
Some of you might consider him a nutcase, although he has a few points that are worthwhile thinking about.

His point in this interview was that our body is our temple, a sort of vessel that should be fed and treated properly.

If you take this seriously, as most of you know, you can and will no longer support the large slaughterhouses, and conventionally (read-industrially) produced and raised meat and vegetables. At that moment food becomes part of a wider cultural perspective.

Anyways, am at work and just have the lunch break, but still think it is worthwhile to think about it.

Definitely interesting.

I read the articles on the site. This is an excellent edited collection that takes up a number of philosophical/ethical issues related to food, food production, and the aesthetic experience of eating and enjoying food.
