Anybody have one done? How long before it stopped hurting? More importantly…how long until you were back riding? 2.5 weeks post-op and I am starting to get stir crazy….

How did they do it? Mesh insert? My first time was I guess just sutures. It was at least a month brfore I was riding gently if if remember right. That was early 90's. But it failed maybe 15 years later and that was repaired with a mesh insert. Much quicker recovery. I think I was allowed easy stuff about two weeks later. Very little pain the second go round. I may have damaged the first repair because I was just feeling OK, I could stand straight and walk slowly so I decided to walk to the bank. I fell down down my frosty front steps on my ass. It hurt a lot. Never went to the bank.

Debate? Bikes are made for riding not pushing.

Mesh. My surgeon (who is also a mountain biker) says I can ride my road bike as soon as I feel comfortable but nothing strenuous or risk of falling for at least 4 weeks post op.

I had a mesh repair almost 15 years ago. I was skiing (tele, even) about a month after surgery. No problems with it at all over the years (knock on wood).

I would take the extra time in the beginning rather than getting in the saddle too soon and doing further damage and extending the recovery time .

I tried riding 5 wks after breaking 2 ribs and it hurt BAD the next couple of days . I ended up taking another few weeks per the doctors orders , and started doing hikes to get out and burn off stircrazyness .

I just passed 3mths last week and I still am very tender in areas .

Have you tried the road bike yet ?? Can you comfortable manhandle your mountain bike for extended periods without wincing in pain ??
Some questions to ask yourself .

One of my tests was riding around the yard and lifting my bike in and out of my truck , if i could not do those movements comfortably i was not going to even try a trail .

I'm in no hurry to get back on mtb. I made it a whole 7 minutes on my road bike today

Well, at least it's not 7 seconds.

Yeah…I haven't forgotten.

For those who have had this surgery…how long was it after the surgery that you were pain free?

My six month old had his done at three months old. Little guy had pretty much zero pain and was back to being a three month old the next day.

Pretty common surgery these days in infants to close it up if it didn't close up on it's own.

I can barley find the little guy's scar now.

I'd say I was pain free immediately, and the general discomfort of the surgery went away after a couple of days. Since I'm a desk jockey, I was able to work at home for a week, so I was sitting most of the time, which I think helped speed recovery.

Really? Mine hurt like hell for at least a week, and still fairly uncomfortable at nearly 3 weeks.

I had hardly any pain after my second repair. I had T3's but took none.
