Honestly, is this any surprise? Corporations looking out for their own self interests and profits before anything else?

Trust nothing unless you can verify it or the source yourself.

There was a BBC series a few years back that traced some of the changes pushed by the sugar industry to say fat makes us fat and pushed more sugar laden foods on us.

Link to episode #1 - The Men Who Made Us Fat

If I remember correctly it talks about the doctor in the late 60's or early 70's that raised the issue about sugar and rising disease levels, but was basically discredited by other doctors on the sugar payroll. Funny how we come full circle on it.

I think the book on the study was call something like Pure, White and deadly

Then there's this:

Pop producers back 96 national organizations, defeated 29 proposed regulations.

Under the guise of sweet charitable giving, soda makers are handing out millions to big name health organizations so that the groups stay quiet about health issues that threaten to slim down drink profits—not to mention Americans themselves—a new study suggests.

i blame everything on the chip companies. i can avoid soda no problem, i can avoid a lot of things, hard drugs, soft drugs, all kinds of wonderful vices. chips own my ass. chips are the great evil, the most addictive drug going. i reckon it must amount to a large % of every convenience store in the world.

Move to the UK and you can avoid eating "chips" and eat "crisps" as an alternative. (BTW in the UK, a "chip" is a French fry).
