looking to get some insight into your training programs for the up coming race season, mainly the bc enduro series. I was racing the bc cup xc for a few seasons about 5 years ago and a bit of road but pretty much stopped racing and just rode more for fun. anyways im getting back into it this year. I am some what fit going into the season as i work a physical job and i have been regularly going to the gym since november. Now i am doing 3 hr rides once a week, but hoping to lock down a good program to follow for riding.

what do you guys do?

You know you went to far when even Tungsten thinks your a Jack Ass.

after last season, i recommend you ride old buck… a lot. that will get you ready for most of the climbs you'll face.

Intervals, intervals, intervals, and more intervals.

Then climb lots, maybe throw some intervals into your climbing.

On top of all that just ride lots.

Ride the nastiest roughest DH you can find on your XC bike.

That should cover it.

I'm overweight and slow, but I'm racing a series here in WA this summer. I'm glad this thread exists.

Intervals will be done.

Interesting thread, i was thinking about this last night ride.

I have been trying to 'stay on point' as much as possible during rides. I.e: pushing as hard as i can on the descent, for as long as i can.

For me, mental stuff is my main focus, as that's where i lose the most IMO. Thinking out the trail, 'learning' the trail first time through, remembering to keep looking out ahead etc etc.

Strava motivates the sustained push for me. I know it's balls out for that entire segment. The thinking comes naturally and if it doesn't I slow down otherwise I'll stop suddenly without warning when I make a wrong move.

When I get back on my hardtail for the first bit I need to drop the race pace mentality though. Have to really think and start pushing the bike into the smoother lines and getting the tires off the ground to get it down to the bottom faster. Pedaling and plowing don't work.

I must say I notice the effect of Strava more on the road. Some segments are really long and the burn is sustained over multiple kilometers. When I don't know where the segments are, I rarely get the same intensity out of the ride.
