edit:

i took this at face value and didn't do my background checking. it tunrs out the statements in the article are incorrect and fudged. the info is loosely based on a japanese study, but the study itself is flawed and is not actually connected with the claim the authors make.

That's interesting. I used to have a Japanese roommate and he insisted bananas were best after they turned completely black.

That's good new, since I eat 3 a day like that.

Ripen til spotty, peel and freeze. Blend with a few raw eggs, avacado, spinach, coconut milk, hemp and walnuts.

There's an episode of Mind of a Chef on Netflix where one of the interviewed chefs absolutely gushes about ripe bananas. That spotty or blackened bananas are displaying 'ultimate banananess' (or something to that effect. I think it's season 1, episode 5.

Who would have thought a fruit would be best for eating when it is at the point of "ripening"?

"Tumor Necrosis Factor is an animal proteinaceous (a protein) hormone. Plants don't produce animal hormones (protein or small molecule)."

But the spotty ones do make good banana bread.

And you can make them lower glycemic by eating the under-ripe ones.

ack! - damn FB clickbait.

When I lived in SE Asia I used to eat bananas off the trees from the back yard. Another cool thing were bats that roosted in the curled-up shoots. Banana trees grow here in Vancouver. But I've never seen them fruit here. My theory is that they are lacking pollinators. Maybe you can make it your life's work (while cheerfully introducing more invasive species to the West Coast).
