can't see a thread elsewhere on the boards so maybe this hasn't come up…. so i assume most people have seen this video by now? i can't believe it when i watch it. the guy falls on what looks like a cart track in a field and ends up with some horrendous life threatening injury. some claim he maybe broke his pelvis but i can't see how at that speed. i almost thought it was a hoax video for a minute, the lead in and his weird friend, it seems surreal and way too light hearted. maybe i just don't get the French way or something, but it's stranger than strange. and stomach churning to boot, what a fracking gruesome injury, aye carumba…

It sure creates uncertainty in ones ability to deal with First Aid issues that may arise in doing the sports that we do….I actually have to take a 2 day first aid course every few years to maintain my ticket and the vid had me thinking maybe I should be taking a better first aid course.
If I was CG, I would be having a little convo with my helmet cam friend and asking him what was up with some of the stupid shit.
If my buddy was potentially bleeding out I think I'd have tossed my helmet and done whatever I could do to help instead of making a cheesy video
We don't know what our limits are, so to start something with the idea of being limited actually ends up limiting us.

You'd be surprised what some people do when they are in shock. I have been out with riders when there were serious injuries. Some freak out and yell, others stand still - paralyzed, it is interesting what the human body does to deal with shock. Blood does not bother me, so both times this has happened, I was that lucky guy staying calm, organizing the exit strategy, while holding gaping wounds and getting covered in blood. Fun

i just did a course in July and in no way would i have felt i could have done enough to control what happened too CG in that vid with the 8hr course.
i have been in a similar position with a good friend while riding Burke on the 1st section of Triple Crown he went down and over the bars on a simple corner , during the crash he took the end of the bar too his quad .
the impact from the bar ruptured his artery and took a 3" bone chip out of his femur , the only reason he is here today is due to his physical conditioning and the fact that the skin never ruptured like what happened with CG , had that happened my friend would have bleed out on the trail as it was several minutes after his crash that i got too him as he was limping out of the trail .
doctor told him the endcap on the end of the bar saved his life , had it been open the impact would of taken a core sample and his artery would have been part of the sample.
as for CG,s guy wearing the helmet and joking around i feel it may have aided CG as he travels with a pretty tight group and each knows the other enough too keep them calm and collective in a incident regardless of the situation .
i know years back i smashed up my hand really bad and a long time co-worker keep me level headed by clowning around with me while giving me treatment and getting me ready to be transported to the ER .

definitely…having had some fairly bad accidents including a car accident that should have killed me and having a 3-400lb boulder roll onto my leg which pulverized my calf I can say in both instances I was pretty grateful to have had a calm first responder with a decent sense of humour. Shits freaky enough as it is, last thing I need is someone getting my heart pounding with panic so I bleed out faster

some people - either thru experience or wiring - are well suited to act as first responders and it's great knowing people like this are around.
in the vid CG stays pretty calm and his buddy with the cam actually does a decent job of staying calm and helping to keep CG alive by keeping enough pressure on the wound to keep him from bleeding out. you can see at the end where the medic asks him what he did and the guy says he used his knee to help maintain pressure and the medic says this probably helped save CG's life.
so while the vid may be a bit difficult to watch, it is good to see to appreciate the benefits or keeping your wits about you and how even something simple like applying pressure to a wound can be a huge help.

This reminds me of a good friend of mine who crashed his mtb hard, knocked himself out and badly lacerated his face. There was a lot of blood. His sister, an ER nurse, lost it when she saw him lying there. She is tough as nails normally but see her brother down was too much.
