Looking to pick up either or to add to my garage set up. Just looking at opinions on getting a bench press vs a squat rack or a half cage. I'm looking at the northern lights cross box at fitness depot.

I'm pretty sure the j-hook holes go all the way to the bottom of the power-rack, which means it can serve as a bench for pressing too.

Or you could get this and this and let me come work out at your place.

Nice little $10k setup!

I bought a powertec cage and bench and it allows me to bench without a spotter safely while getting full range of motion.

IMO a bench rig is too limiting (focuses too much on a limited set of exercises), so I got a squat/power rack. Rogue has some squat stands that can convert to a half rack later if you want as well.

Being cheap is OK. Being a clueless sanctimonious condescending douchebag is just Vlad's MO.

The guys I work with are Rogue fan boys and I do like their stuff, but the Northern Light Crossbox series appears to be the exact same thing (accessories are interchangable) and is significantly cheaper.

I think I'll head to Fitness depot tommorrow and take a closer look.

Tom, the only thing I don't like about that rack is the two inch spacing though the bench zone. I like this one better. Titan Fitness HD Power Rack with 2"x3" Tubes

This is what I'm looking at:

that also makes it great for doing bicep curls. which really, is what a power rack was designed for.

We don't know what our limits are, so to start something with the idea of being limited actually ends up limiting us.

and just to confirm with everyone else, yes a squat rack with an adjustable bench is the only setup you'll ever really need.

and jetta_mike, some 8" square 3/4" thick plywood blocks placed under your bench will give you the adjustability you're looking for with that northern lights rack.

I haven't seen anyone do that in well over a year now. The world is becoming a better place!

Why would an inch difference either way make a difference when doing bench press?
