the (seemingly) best combination of design and value in mountain biking is coming - if there was a meta critic for bike reviews, i think this thing might be scoring a perfect 100:

who's ready to rock a capra?

I can't believe they didn't line up the logos on the tires with the rim decals. Can't stop looking at it! j/k

The prices of those bikes are crazy. The top shelf model with an amazing build is only $5500. :damn:

I can't say it enough, how important a good bike shop is, but godamn, I like this direct sales business model.

Interesting that its being run by Cam Zink and his brother.

You're looking at USD pricing. $5500 to CAD is $7000. Still a good deal though.

I went direct sales with my latest frame. Cost savings was substantial. That Capra is sweet but no frame-only option is unfortunate. The direct sales model is gaining momentum.

yeah, but the bikes are sold out of europe. so if prices are based on the euro, not the usd, we're in better shape:

capra cf comp:

  • 3.499,00 euro = 5026.40 cdn
  • 4,595.00 usd = 5849.21 cdn

I love that the Euro is shitting the bed for this reason alone.

The top of the line model though, there is not a part on there that anyone would change. Maybe the grips, maybe the tires after they wear out, but that is a very solid build.

And its 170mm travel at 28lbs.

Due to different tax and VAT issues our consumer prices will be slightly higher than in Europe, but not by much.

The USA pricing is what you should reference for now, since choosing the Canada page option redirects you to USA.

As I was able to order my Commencal frame directly from Europe instead of the USA site and take advantage of the shitty Euro value and avoid the strong US dollar, I thought maybe the YT distribution model is similar. I just logged in to the European site and was able to place a "mock" order to Canada. Take that FWIW…

It's a nail in the coffin for many an LBS IMO.

Canyon will no doubt eventually follow. How can non direct manufacturers and bike shops compete with it?

With Velofix, Bikeroom, SuspensionWerx and host of other service-only shops, i can see this direct sales model working well for local riders.

I agree. The system is totally broken as far as I'm concerned. Say a $3000 retail bike is sold to a dealer for roughly $2000. That leaves $1000 for profit, which out of that comes the rent, employee wage, owners wage and keeping the lights on. Now factor in the ever infamous 'bro deal' just to make the sale and the shop is left with a couple hundred bucks. Over time it's inevitable that said shop will run out of money. Granted there are some successful shops in the LM but they are few.
