So , am I going to have issues with clipping my heels on the chain stays? or does the BB shell/ BB spindle also get wider in this new "standard"?

The heel clearance is a valid point.

The BB width isn't increasing so all the shite they talk about regarding stiffer frames via main pivot width increase is complete bullshit.

Oh and here's a hub that's popular amongst World Cup DH racers. Note the huge wasted space between the non-drive flange and disc mount. Miraculously these wheels survive under some of the highest loads in cycling even with such massive compromise…

I really hope there's some common sense backlash to this shite.

I follow the logic of a wider flange spacing and moving the rim away from the drive side a toch so the drive side spokes are better braced. But that is only a benefit if current wheels are not good enough. I don't read about riders folding rear wheels right left and centre for any wheel size. Like that stem a certain manufacture claimed was 40% stiffer than the competition. If my old stem didn't flex, what does 40% more better mean? Not much. But if the chain line steps out a bit out back, the bb will have to wider too. Or rings will step out a bit or Q factor widened. Seems marketing driven to me.

Debate? Bikes are made for riding not pushing.

148mm is so old. for 2016 it's gonna be all about 145mm spacing, dishless rear wheel and cutting edge 7 speed 'DH' cassettes:

I thought seven speed DH cassettes were last year.

I can't wait for 28.1875" wheels and 1.75" tapered headtubes. 27.5" and 1.5" has been around too long.

Not with this new style which has increased distance between the sprockets though. Moar mud clearing potential, better gear changes and will still work when the derailleur and / or hanger is bent.

Any ideas on whether these dropouts could be made in 148?

Maybe. Or you could saw them off and weld new ones on. But why bother? 135mm qr axles feel great on steel hards tail IMO, plenty stiff. Long may they reign

Don't want more vertical stiffness but less wheel truing and rebuilds would come in handy. Also, lateral stiffness for better tracking wouldn't be a bad thing.

You could always run thicker gauge spokes to accomplish exactly what you ask for…

I would REALLY love to see consumers vote with their wallets on this one and give any manufacturer adopting this standard a big F you.

This. Use straight gauge spokes for stiffer, cheaper wheels. less truing, plus you're only rebuilding when your rim dies, and a fancy new axle standard isn't helping with that

The big 3 always have the best money to performance ratio so we are at their mercy. It usually makes more sense to buy one of their bikes than take an expensive stand.
