XTR Trail Pedals - WTF?

What part of the pedal breaks? Is the actual spindle or …?

Yeah the spindle snaps just at the inside of the cone and lock nut. I only had one break out of five in my household? Maybe six between my wife and I and all our bikes or former bikes. All the pedals have many gouges and scrapes from rock strikes. I think it was mostly the first generation of the current models. One other difference was the first gen were I think slightly thicker because new shoes and pedals were a tight fit. Newer pedals are not as tight.

Debate? Bikes are made for riding not pushing.

There were reports by people that there might be differences between the first year and subsequent years but I have not found this to be the case. XTR Trails out almost 4 seasons now? Broke a warrantied pair from last year in the same manner.

XTR trails are the Crank Bros. of the pedal world it would seem… Shimano stuff is usually bombproof.

try the DX and you'll never use anything else

2 months and they were ruined.

Love them tho.

I broke 2 as well (one right one left, on 2 separate pairs a couple of months apart).

Apparently the problem was that they were not as tight as they should have been from the factory, particularly in the early production runs, and if they develop any play at all and that play is not rectified, they will eventually fail. I had both pairs replaced under warranty within the first few months of use, and have been running the replacements for 2 years since with zero problems. If yours have no play, it should not be a problem. If they do, they should be serviced.

Any takers for a new warranty set still in the box $75? No warranty, no life insurance. Warning, these are more dangerous than any Crank Brothers product ever built.

Quick update on this…. just warrantied my 2 year old XTR trails with CRC after exchanging a few emails and some pictures… I had to mail the broken pedals back but they issued me the replacement e-vouchers right away as soon as I provided proof that I had paid to ship the pedals. Pretty damn good service.

Gonna try the new XT trails with bigger platform to see how they pan out.

I found an XTR trail pedal body on Business time if anyone wants to get that back for warranty purposes.

Mine held up for two seasons just fine. I gave them to a friend recently because the platform does nothing for me and actually I can get into the race pedals quicker. My friend broke a race XTR pedal but not me and I have had a number of them on a number of bikes.

Why would Breezer recall over the same issue but not Shimano?

I'm a year and a half on mine and I seem to tag my pedals almost every ride. They still perform like new, although they are looking hagged. What am I doing wrong?

So I smashed my final pair of time pedals a couple days ago. I love how the feel but one good rock strike and the springs lose tension rendering them useless. I'm looking at the xt trails but skeptical of how sturdy they'll feel under my size 14 2fo shoe. I might try the m530 (slx) first as they're only $30 on crc right now. Do these caged style shimanos feel stable or will my foot rock and roll around?
