OK… I 've had 2 pairs of these, right pedal only, explode on me in the past 2 years. Is this a known problem? My XT trail pedals have had no such issues. Just wondering if I have been living under a mushroom.
XTR Trail Pedals - WTF?
Are you left foot forward? Most people smash the rear pedal more.

Hmmm… funny you mention that… yes, I am. Is it that simple? I am going to replace them with a pair of XT level pedals as I can't stomach paying XTR prices anymore, even though they can be found pretty cheap online. But for about 10 grams of weight difference its a no-brainer.
Yes, its a very common problem. I've gone through three pairs, always the same and always meticulously maintaining them. The XTs apparently have a much better track record and I've gone this route for my last pair.
yeah, there's been heaps of xtr trail pedal failures (google it). i opted for the bomber xt's for that reason. you'd assume the issue had been resolved by now; it goes back a while.
Mine did too. Replaced under warranty, they were meant to put beefier collet in the end of the axle.
Jon-boy.
XTR has a three year warranty and I know there were some that broke. The threads at the end of the axle could snap and the pedal body would come off and the innards would too. Mine were replaced with the current ones. Although mine were the race version but they look the same inside.
Debate? Bikes are made for riding not pushing.
try the DX and you'll never use anything else

Yep, that's exactly what happened in both pedals. I think I got both pairs from CRC, and TBH I am too lazy to send them back, at the moment. Might consider doing the warranty route later. XTs it is moving forward.

Those are boat anchors…. used to use them on my DH bike and wrecked them as well and now they are sitting in my spare parts bin.
Damn it, now I am going to constantly wonder when mine will blow up. :flame:

Tick, tick, tick…. ;)
beyond the exorbitant price, i've always tried to avoid xtr because it's where shimano seems to act like sram: working out the kinks in their products, and how far they can push their weight saving strategies, using customers as paying beta testers. leaky brakes. brittle pedals. proprietary tools. tiny bearings. why pay top dollar to help a company with their qc? xt ftw

I switched from DX to M530s to save that weight. I've missed the DX performance a bit ever sinc.
Though overall the M530s are the best pedals ever given their weight, cost and durability - the holy trifecta. I've been abusing mine for over two years. They look pretty beat up but they are going strong. For [HTML_REMOVED]$50.
There's nothing better than an Orangina after cheating death with Digger.
dx's may not be lite, but I smash them off rocks a lot, and they keep on cranking for years at a time.
