XT 11 Speed

Using this calculator, it looks like 28x9 is roughly equivalent to 32x10.

From what I've read about Sram and Shimano gearing the spacing on the cog isn't everything. Rather, the pull ratio between the shifter and derailleur differs. I also believe the ratio changes for one and is constant for the other. i.e. 1:1.2 for all hears on one setup and 1:1.4 for the first half, then 1:1.3 on the remaining.

May all be out the window with 11spd, but I'd wager Shimano has managed to keep their stuff from working with SRAM.

? The shifter and derailleur need to have compatible cable pull ratios. You're running a Sram shifter [HTML_REMOVED] mech, so it works fine. Mixing [HTML_REMOVED] matching shifters and derailleurs are where it gets complicated. The system doesn't care what brand of cassette you're running…

Maybe you're getting confused about the discussion of ratios above, which refers to chainring/sprocket size ratios, which is what determines your gearing, nothing to do with actually being able to shift between them…

+1 for the previous response. Casettes, chains, and cranksets aren't the issue. Its the amount of cable movement at the lever relative to the amount of movement in the derailleur.

I understand that the pull ratios of shifter and rear mech need to be the same and the system, at least in the 10spd setup didn't care which cogset was used. I haven't looked too closely at the 11spd setup (even though I have X.01 on a bike) and cross compatibility as it wasn't an option until now.

My ultimate setup if possible would be X.01 shifter, XT 11-40 cogset, KMC X-SL chain, 30 or 32t narrow/wide ring, rear mech undecided.

Going with XT m8000, but I do have an XD freehub for my wheel.

I could go with the SRAM XG 1150 10-42T, but it is $45 more than the Shimano cassette and I'm hearing that the XD freehub is a pain when it comes time to pop of your cassette.

Or replace the XD hub and…

Or I could run a Shimano 11-42 and do the direct mount with a 28T chainring.

wish one would come out with a 8spd or 9spd wide range , i could live with a 15/42 if it improved my chainline .

Okay, I was told the new Shimano 11 speed cassettes fit the SRAM XD freehubs, and I won't need to replace my XD freehub to run the new XT m8000 cassette.

Not my regular LBS…I worry that he may have been mixing up XD with XT, I did say SRAM.

Ummm.. NO… definitely not. Shimano 11 speed cassettes only fit Shimano spec. freehubs. I think Shimano as a company would implode the day they build a XD compatible cassette.

I am running 11 speed XTR (11-40) with a 28T RF N/W DM chainring… works great. Better than running a conversion cog IMO and stressing your derailleur to its max. I can climb anything that my legs and lungs are capable of… if its any steeper than that I don't sweat it.

XT 11 speed is up on CRC and the dream of a near $100 11-spd cassette appears to be a reality.

Jenson has the derailleur and the shifter as in-stock, the 11-42 cassette isn't available yet though.
