winter xc/am tire options

I saw the HR2 in a local shop…and then saw the price and put it down…damn they are getting expensive…the shop guy said all maxxis are 100 now…as IFO would say…No Sale.

mmm cdn. prices should be heading down based on how strong the dollar has been recently. i don't pretend to know enough about currency markets and economics in general to give a reason, but i'm guessing that prices will "correct" the other way: here and in the us, stuff's going to cost more in the coming model year

Yeah…I understand that…and I love maxxis tires, the DHF is my favourite tire…but I think they have priced themselves out of my market at least…I am now looking at other options.

what about Schwalbe Muddy Mary's? seem to have a wide range of compounds and the freeride line is more or less 900gr each tire

THis is getting a bit dizzing. Lest say that i put the priority in this order

Sticky, wet, PNW roots n rocks, keeps you alive on the decents, but appropriate all mountain sizing.
Climbing traction
durable (tubeless options)
cost
weight (can go tubeless)
rolling resistance
wear

The last two are interchangeable. Lets call it a winter survival tire.

Has anyone tried the new specialized ground control 2.3 ust? or even seen one. my lbs tried to order me in one, but the lady on the other side of the phone said they were discontinued, even as i was staring at the 'new for 2012' banner in the catalog.

Waiting on it to arrive shortly in a 29 and 26 size. Will update when I see it. It was shown at the 29er launch in Roc D'azur event.
