Looking for some ideas for winter rubber as the wet weather looms. Any new 'stars' out there for the slippery months? Considering going tubeless this year to help with running lower pressures. any ideas?

For my AM bike my plan for this winter is 2.3 Butcher SX front and 2.3 Butcher control rear. Both set up tubeless with stans and gorilla tape.

Hoping to retain a reasonable amount of grip with this combination while rolling faster than the 42a single ply 2.35 minions front and rear I've used with success in the past.

Schwalbe Muddy Mary, only time I have EVER lost grip on these tires was when I hit a patch of loose gravel in a berm. They roll like boat anchors though.

This worked well for me last fall/winter.

2.35 Schwalbe Hans Dampf for the front - Trailstar compound grips like glue, but gets shredded fairly quickly on the back. Up front it's perfect. Get the TL Ready ones as they're lighter than the tubeless. They are a big tire, easily bigger than the 2.5 Maxxis. I run it at ~25psi on Flows with one wrap of stans yellow tape and have no issues with burping etc.

Currently running a 2.25 Nobbly Nic Pacestar compound on the back, it rolls fast and it is lasting pretty well, definitely not the grip of the trailstar but I don't mind the back sliding around a little.

So far I really like my Hans Dampf 2.35 Trailstar front / Nobby Nic 2.25 Pacestar rear for year-round shore use. I just let a few PSI out for the wet stuff, and a few more if it snows.

panaracer xc fire at 55 psi
:hurt:

but seriously Spec Butcher control 2.3 Front and NN 2.25 rear.

So far so good but the NN has worn quite a bit (it's not the new pacestar type, it's the previous evo) and I will likely replace it with a Spec Purgatory 2.2.

Pressures, the slipperier the lower.

Wrong. Always.
