Current setup uses sun singletrack rims with 2.5" tires. Not looking for full DH, just something to elimanate pinch flats at low psi.

i think they are called the Kenda Extreems or something like that, they are thicker than an xc tube, but not as heavy as a full on dh tube.

Well I really like Intense red tubes. They are heavy but I have never gotten a flat even when running super low air pressure.

ive had nothing but Intense DH tubes and Kenda Extremes. The kenda tube is basically a motorcross tube scaled down to an mtb sized wheel; very tough, very nice - plus only about 11 bucks…

the intense dh tubes weigh more, are just as beefy (i think) and cost what all intense gear costs - 30% more than its competing manufacturers

if you can find an intense for cheap, go for it! if you want to try out the kenda, you wont be upset with your purchase…both great tubes!

dear DW,
since you got like a million bucks now, can i borrow $2850 for a Revolt frame?

thanks,
steve

I have been running a Specialized TR Racing tire. A bit thicker than a standard tube. Light weight. And doesnt make the tire feel squirrely. Max width is 2.3 though :(

pinch flats IMO depend alot on your tires. you got tires with nice thick stiff sidewalls(i.e. michelins) you get no pinch flats i ran a michelin out back on my roast for 2 yrs with a xc tube and i never got a pinch flat. this year a intense dh tube and a wtb weirwofl (paper thin sidewalls) and i have pinch flatted 3 times so far this year. i haven't latley cause i have been running a dh tube inside a dh tube so i got extra protection. but it comes at a hefty price. tht back wheel (trailpimp and cannondale omega hub) weighs like 9and half pounds. oh well getting some .243 tires soon :smokin:

Intense tubes are strong as anything, I had cased doubles bad enough that the rim totally bent out, no flats in a year with them.

None. Go tubeless. And by Michelin's admission, their tires do not have terribly thick sidewalls. Not as thick as Maxxis in any case. Michelin's are tubeless ready. I wouldn't use the Canadian Tire sealant though. Get something that stays liquid. If you have Mavic D3.1 rims you don't need sealant.

To your original question, I hadn't used to notice any difference between regular tubes and DH tubes for pinch flat resistance.

Maxxis tires and maxxis DH tubes, haven't had a flat for 2 seasons. Except when a piece of glass went through my tire, then i had 2 flats from XC tubes until a bought a IRC Dh tube, and now all is well again.

Canadian Tire CCM tubes work really well. They are insanely thick compared to an XC tube. They are made by Kenda.

I have had good luck with Kenda XC tubes, and the MEC ones. I buy my tubes at MEC now, $2.25 each.
