Based on your opinion or fact?

The totem's are an excellent freeride fork, if they are kept in good service.

Is there an 's' in "island" or is it "iland"?

The Rockshox Sid is an awesome freeride fork. You just have to remember to bend your arms a bit more on impact :rolls eyes:

the Totem are an excellent freeride fork, as long as you don't use your bike ;)

It does make you wonder though.
With all the market research that goes into identifying and preparing to exploit a niche like freeriding, how did they miss that freeriders on the whole DON'T service their forks every 15 hours like the manual says??

Almost every fork thread has "i have had XXXXX fork for 2 years and i haven't changed the oil or seals once!" like a badge of honour. Reliability should be number one.

It's no wonder every thread about totem is about problem

I ride like once a week maybe? 2 hrs of hike, 1-1.5hr of decent "riding".

so that's about a service every 15-10 rides. which is about 3 months. not bad if you ask me.

Whistler's another story though, i'd service the fork daily from that much abuse.

i guess what i'm saying is, totem is more fragile(seal wise), than other forks; so if you want high performence and long life. Get off the couch and don't be lazy.

Thing is, if that were the case, none of the big manufacturers would have gone away from open oil bath designs. As it stands, Rock Shox, Fox and Manitou all run closed circuit dampers and a token dribble of oil for lubrication, presumably due to it saving weight and being easier for the end user to wok on.

Still, you can always run '08 Marzocchi's and live with the still faulty ATA cart.

Or if you're really lucky, the new QR20 might fall out, mid ride :D

i'll take my years of flawless set-and-forget performance mixed in with awesome + fast customer service thank you very much… i mean, honestly, my buddy had to send his totem away twice this year and they have charged him 200+ bucks each time. wtf?

someone should make a 7 inch inverted dual crown that has a progressive air ramp up at the end of the stroke make it weigh 7 pounds and only needs servicing ever two years.

So, for those of us that ride say 3-5 days per weeks, 1.0 hours (riding) per
day, @ 15 hours that's 3-5 weeks, that's about once a month i'd be doing
"work" on my fork…wtf?

I figure I'm getting about 195 hours of riding (48 wks X 4 dpw ave) in red
clay year around, wet and dry before my 888 gets love. Oh, plus two weeks
riding WBP…My fork has given me zero issues, same with the monster t I had
before that, and the super t before that, and the vanilla rlc before that.

Not being lazy, I just have way more to do in my life than changing oil and seals
once a month. Like ride my bike, or surf, or spear fish, or fish, or hike, or
mow the lawn. I don't own a '66 VW bus because I want to get in my car and
go, not adjust the damn valves once a week, or sync the carbs, or fix the
stupid horn yet one more time.

It's not a badge of honor, I'm not trying to see how much I can abuse it before
if breaks…that's the bike/fork/shock manufacturer, not mine.

As I said before, if you're in to tinkering with your bike, that's great…for you.
I don't own a bike to tinker, something breaks I replace it.

Totem as it stands = no sale
