Hey i'm looking for a new headset for my brodie enduro. I know Chris Kings are the best, but i don't really want to spend $100 on just a headset! So what are some other good headsets that are cheap. also, whats threaded and threadless? Does this mean that some headsets actually screw in or what:???:

FSA PIG

Threadless is your industry standard. Threaded means the compression cap is threaded onto the fork, and then there is a quill stem. The threaded forks aren't that strong and aren't really to effective. The stems slip all the time.

As stated, Pigs are the one of the best low dollar headsets out there. You could get a Pig Pro (Sealed version) too. I prefer the simplicity of the standard Pig, and one cleaning/regrease a season is usually more than good enough. I run one on my MTB and my BMX.

That's a pretty good price for the King headset.

There are some inexpensive headsets, like the Pig, that work well. I got the one with the big ball bearings and it's strong, works well, and is easy to service.

FSA for sure for a quality, inexpensive headset. If you get the unsealed version, they are even cheaper, just make sure that it remains clean and greased.

FSA Sky Pilot. a really sweet headset

not as crappy (but durable) as most FSA stuff.

this headset runs needles on the bottom and cartrage on the top. the bottom has a grease port… its super nice and has that FSA beat-the-shit-out of-me-if-you-want durability…

really sweet headset. 50$ (USD)

I got a skypilot when I got a new frame and to be honest I didnt think it was THAT much better then a standard PIG.If i were you Id buy a PIG, a couple of lizard skin headset seal things (nice n cheap) and a tub of good grease - that'll keep you laughing for ages-years in fact

You make a very useful point. If you do something simple, like wrap a piece of tire tube around the lower cup, it will keep water out and the headset will require a lot less servicing.
