Riders running Continental tires in the Val di Sol slop were on Argotal front and rear. I'm keen to try the Argotal as a front in DH supersoft configuration, just waiting for my Assegai to wear out.

Interesting;y, one of the mechanics in a pit walk video said that some of them also like the Krypto front, even in the wet at Leogang and Val di Sole, but I don’t think he said they ended up choosing it over the Argo. Still, pretty surprising given the tall, close tread in the Krypto.

For what you describe, 2.6 would probably ride great. I've tried them and find their downside is the unwinnable compromise between squirm in corners and bouncy feeling at speed on chunk. This is in higher-speed conditions when pushing hard, and I was on EXO or EXO+.

I probably wouldn't run EXO or EXO+ in a 2.6. Schwalbe Super Trail is likely supportive enough for you, it's got a fair bit more support than the EXO flavors. DD would probably work well.

Yeah, for sure wouldn’t want to run it in a light casing.

I figure if I use a beefier casing, and an insert like Rimpact or Cushcore that gives a nice ‘damped’ feel and supports the sidewall, that should help bring the bounce and squirm down to levels that I can handle, especially given my speeds aren’t that high anyway, let alone in the wet.

I have a few wheels so I can always switch to a smaller tire for fast, dry, days.

It generally takes a LOT of wetness and mud for pros to switch away from their dry conditions tyres. E.g. last years Red Bull Hardline was notoriously rainy and muddy but half the riders stayed on their Krypto Fronts or Assegais. I noticed the same for the Rocky Mountain EWS team, they stayed on Assegais for everything except super deep slop.

I guess some of it has to do with the speed the pros carry. Mud clears a lot better when going 60 km/h than when going at regular rider's speeds.

I’ve been running a Argotal super soft out front. It’s been great. Debated between the Kryptotal and Argotal but I’ve been happy with my choice so far. I think the Kryptotal F would have the edge for all out grip but I find I can feel when I’m on the edge knobs better on the Argotal versus my old assegai. The Argotal feels a bit more precise as well.

It also clears mud much better than the Kryptotal R I have out back.

Another vote for the Conti Kryptotal, but if budget is a concern then that Spesh tire deal that's running right now is pretty sweet.
