same standard that was on 650b...  If we didn't like progression we would probably be on 26" wheels with canti brakes.

pretty easy to google reduced offsets and you get articals with diagrams and explanations

I found this  back to back test interesting

https://www.bikeradar.com/mtb/gear/article/pushing-the-limits-of-fork-offset-an-experiment-45343/

"Chris Porter has experimented with a huge range of fork offsets on his bikes, and he has found that shorter offsets give a calmer handling bike, which tends to go faster when the stopwatch is brought to bear. Following this, Chris has landed on a 30mm offset for his own bike."

Since 44mm 29ers are now the standard maybe I should switch to a 37mm offset 36.

The standard initially was 46mm no? Then Trek (?) really pushed/still pushthe 'G2' 51mm offset.

44 vs 46, couldn't care less

Giant was really into pushing 46mm for 275 (Reign) bikes when they jumped on that bandwagon.

The entire offset thing could've been avoided had larger wheel sizes not been driven by "It's needs to handle like the smaller wheeled version"

To be fair, geometry had to catch up a bit too, so far as I can tell.

The new school low offsets seem to work best with long reaches and even slacker head angles. We've been groomed to accept incremental changes, who knew we would be in a world where 450mm reach on a medium and sub 65* head angles on a 29er would be a thing
