Arg! My small 1bdrm apartment is running out of room already with 2 bikes, and with a new one on the way, I'm going to be totally screwed. Then I came across this picture in a post from a bloke from the U.K.

What a fantastic way to store your bikes. Has anyone else built something similar, or is something like this available retail?

that looks cool, but why not just screw a big hook into your ceiling, and hang the bikes by their front wheel? i have a drop ceiling dammit or i'd be doing that - anyone have any ideas of getting around that? i'm also running out of room :(

Bikes take up room. Try holding your bike up against the wall, in 3 different places, and see how much space it will take. Or hold your bike up in a hanging position. You'll find that the amount of room is a fair bit because of tire size or handlebar width.

You can buy those hangers for about $10 at a hardware store (I bought one at the Rona in North Van). You need to use a couple long scews into the stud to hold the weight. If you have steel studded walls, it's not so good.

Or you can buy hooks J hooks at a hardware store (or Canadian Tire) and hang your bikes from the ceiling.

wouldn't hanging a 50lb bike from the ceiling upside cause stress to the wheels? I think i'd rather use the hooks and hang the frame. Finally i'll have an excuse to borrow my Dad's laser-guided stud finder and level :thepimp:

Of course, but not enough to do any harm.

Last time I was in California, I picked up this rack from Supergo. It rocks! You can stack 4 bikes on it if you need to (provided they aren't all 50 lbs DH bikes). I guess shipping and duty would make them quite a bit more expensive, but if you're in Cali and have space in the car….

That's a great setup.

I was going to get the one from Supergo, but shipping was really expensive.

Problem with mountain bikes is that they often have very wide bars, so the bike is pushed out further from the wall.
