Geez - more new stuff. Won't be getting this one to review till November so will be a mixed bike/ski review I guess.

I'm also going to try to follow up with more looks at alternate mount systems for Vholdr

This is kind of spammish but I can't find the full text of the PR at the www.vholdr.com site so here it is

Buy it here and at other retailers - http://pointofviewcameras.ca/vholdr-contourhd-1080p.html

Here's my initial impressions from a unit provided by pointofviewcameras.ca

_SUMMARY

The ContourHD 1080P will be $ 55 Cad/ $ 50 USD more expensive then it[HTML_REMOVED]#8217;s cousin the ContourHD (for the sake of clarity I[HTML_REMOVED]#8217;ll call the earlier model the ContourHD 720). Both units are available for sale. Vholdr is not obsoleting the 720p just offering customers a choice between a grab and go unit (720p) and a higher end, more customizable camera with user adjustable settings like contrast, sound recording and exposure at a higher resolution.

At $ 363 Cad ($330 USD) vs $ 308 (280 USD) the Contour HD 1080p will be worth it if you have: (i) a pretty fast computer and (ii) want to view your videos on a 1080p HD viewable computer or TV. NOTE that I have yet to investigate the ability of the ContourHD 1080 to be configured by software so reserve the right to alter my opinion if the ContourHD 1080[HTML_REMOVED]#8217;s performance can indeed be tweaked by software.

In reading this opinion, keep in mind my previous opinion that the ContourHD 720[HTML_REMOVED]#8217;s video output was already very good for a POV camera. The ContourHD 1080p is an incremental improvement that, for my purposes, is probably not worth an upgrade. Think of the ContourHD 720[HTML_REMOVED]#8217;s video performance as a Porsche. The ContourHD 1080P is a Porsche Turbo. But the roads I drive on (substitute bandwidth for roads) are pretty rudimentary and I could never harness the power, performance and handling of a Porsche Turbo.

Perhaps you can, you with your new iMac, and your premium high-speed internet connection, or your new 1080P HDTV in which case the ContourHD 1080p is the tool for you._

you'd think they would find a way to make it stop shaking before making 1080p

or have they?

Lee, one of the concerns I heard from a camera rental operator was that the units weren't really waterproof/resistant. Have you done much testing in the wet yet?

This trip to Kelowna was definately an undertaking - Liam and I had been planning this project for 24 hours. We worked really hard to pull out all the stops in this video. We had slo-mo goggle shots; time lapses; pedal flips; outrageous product shots; unloading and loading the bike; walking through the field with your hand in wheat. At the end of the day this trip was all about just getting out and riding with all my friends.

I find the shake acceptable - you can consciously minimize it in most cases. But I mainly like the wider angles of the contour

I don't know if it came through in the review but I didn't see any reason to upgrade. I actually think the nonHD version of the Vholdr you have is fine bryce. Their video is good. I just think their mounts are crap.

Dave - you think the footage is shaky. Well the footage I put up is with the VIO mount which makes it better. The Vholdr-supplied goggle mounts and vented helmet mount (discontinued) is so shaky that it's not going to see light of day.

yo gotham - haven't tried it in the wet yet. When I try it in the snow I'll find out for sure. I could go for a wet day ride i guess but when its that wet Im usually working on trails or hiking

Maybe make videos of trail repairs? How to clear a drain?

the angle is too narrow on the VholdR, its 90 degrees as oppposed to 170

Does your goggle strap fit in the mount snugly? The camera wobbles on the mount otherwise. Full face? That helps too. Lend me the 1080, I'll throw it on my goggles and full face and lets see if the footage comes out smoother. Make it a wet day and thats 2 birds with 1 stoner

the camera wobbles on the mount rails. I've resorted to putting tape on the mount rails. Maybe ride something paved on Saturday. I forgot your Vholdr was such a narrow field of view

Its nice they have the 720p at 60 FPS but I have to agree no image stabilizer is the biggest problem.
