Not to be confrontational, but imagine if you waited until you heard from BSP before posting here. You'd be posting a good LBS service story instead of wondering if Manitou is shit story.

I think you were looking for the term "Devils Advocate" ;)

The story wouldn't change. The hands are still tied by the ones above it. If BSP had to deal with XYZ company instead of OGC, and they wouldn't help, then I'd get screwed. But of course, in the spirit of customer service, I'm sure BSP still would have tried to help.

The story would still be about the shop trying to help out, but something would still be wrong above them. In this case, a whole chain of customers were affected by an issue that was out of OGC and BSP's control. The only company that could fix this would be Manitou.

So I got a call from BSP Bikes and they told me that they were able to fix the fork in the shop with some help from James at OGC. Apparently, some sort of shim or part came loose and was blocking the valve in the damper. Long story short, they fixed it up, put new oil in, and we're good to go. The mechanic there seemed convinced that this was just an assembly thing at the factory, and that what he did should take care of this.

I was happy with the service there. The mechanic even offered to loan me a fork in case this one needed to be shipped off to be repaired. However, this whole situation kind of reminded me of when I used to sell Curtis DVD Players. Half of them broke, and whenever one of my staff needed to deal with one coming back, I always told them to just take care of the customer and give them their money back, whatever it took to make sure our customer was taken care of. It was not worth it to get worked up over a poor quality product. They were so accomodating, for a bike shop, because I used to work at a bike shop loooong ago, that you had to think that they see a lot of Manitou's come in and just knew the drill. But I'll try to believe that it is because they wanted to give me good service.

Taking it up to Whistler on Saturday. Lets see if it survives. Thanks BSP for getting me going as fast as you did :)

It was nice that it didn't have to go back, for sure. I got some more details on what happened. It wasn't a shim. It was a spring that came loose, and got wedged under one of the valves. Mechanic seemed confident that it wouldn't get dislodged again, but of course, couldn't guarantee that.

In other news, I ran into Tom Welling at the shop. He just finished filming Smallville, and was buying new $180 shorts and a Gyro helmet. It was kind of funny seeing him check out the "Kryptonite" locks on the wall.

Well, off to Whistler tomorrow. If Travis survives, ther might still be hope for Manitou.

Fork BROKE…again! Same thing. Top out noise, and loss of rebound damping. WTF is wrong with this thing! :flame: Well, back to BSP.

I might have to convert my headtube to 1 1/8 so I can broaden my options. This is getting very silly.

Sorry to hear it :(

Maybe drop it off with James@ogc, have him work his magic, and ride it until you can find a solution that makes you happy?
