To LuftKappe or not to Luftkappe

Just picked up a used solo air 2018 Lyrik.  I currently ride a DPA pike.  I find that I often blow through my travel so to compensate I used tokens and upped the pressure.

Any thoughts about using the luftkappe on the Lyrik to keep it supple on top but not have it blow through the travel.  Have they fixed this with the 2018 Lyrik and charger 2 damper?

The new DebonAir spring on the 2018+ Pike/Lyrik has a larger negative spring like the Luftkappe so in theory it should address the same issues. I've read that Luftkappe can still provide better performance due to the engineering/materials of the seal head but no idea if that's true or not. Luftkappe transformed my 2017 Pike, such a good upgrade... maybe ride it first and see how it works for ya? There's no change on the damper side.

Definitely an improvement on my 2016 36 Fit4. Worth the money IMHO.

not to derail the thread, but i'd be curious as to if you feel the Lyrik is much of an overall improvement or difference from the Pike in general.  i have a Fox 36 on the AM bike and going back to my trail 29er with 140 for has me wanting for the front end performance of the other bike...  wondering if a switch to Lyrik 150 would do it.

Same situation when I ride my Smuggler with a 150mm Lyrik (2016 Model) compared to the 160mm Fox 36 Evol on my LT 29er.

The Lyrik just feels harsh in comparison.

I bought a 2018 Debonair airshaft (140mm) for the Lyrik and some Formula NEOPOS spacers. But I haven’t had time to fit and try the modification yet.

Will report back. 160mm of plush travel are really nice. Even though shorter travel bikes are hyped and fun!
