TIRE TIME!

I need new tires. So I'm trying to decide what's best.

I've never owned Minions everyone swears by them but I don't know.

I liked my Continental Der Kaiser I ran last year, how do they compare.

I hate buying tires especially if they don't preform well.

What do you guys think?

Is this the 2.35MM or the 2.5MM? I have read that the 2.35 MM is actually wider than the 2.5 Minions? Fact or fiction?

North shore bike shop sells the minion 3c's for $65 or something like that. Correct me if I'm wrong.

2.5 MMs are wider than 2.5 Maxxis Minions. If you do go the MM route, make sure you get the Vertstar compound.

As a testament to their durability, I wore through a set of rear pads before the tire started to break in. I would rate the Vertstar compound in the same sticky boat as Super Tackys.

Look at the Specialized Butcher for a cheaper but good alternative to the Minion. If you go with the SX casing you will save some weight too.

I've had good experience with Kenda Excavators.

I'm really like my Specialized Clutch. I'm running it in the 2.3 up front. I am using the weight weenies version.

Clutch sx in the back, Butcher sx up front.

Loving Schwalbe's new stuff, running a 2.35 Hans Dampf on the back which is head and shoulders above anything I have tried recently and going to try a 2.4 Fat Albert up front Local prices are pretty high but they can be found online (CR cough cough…) for a decent price.
