Tire size 08 Norco Fluid/Fox Vanilla Fork

Hi guys, my missus complains about the grip of the current tires on her 2008 Norco Fluid. She has Hutchinson Spiders 2.0 on it - and the tread is just not up to the task of the singletrails around here. may be good for moist fireroads - but not for anything loamy or clay-ish.

She runs a Vanilla Fork and it looks as if a 2.1 - 2.25 could fit in without any hassle - the rear-end looks a bit tighter, maybe a 2.1 the most.

Any info on how big she can go tire wise? She really wants to order new tires so she can start working on her downhill and berm techniques. :)

Those stock tires are great for dry hardpack but for wetter rides, I'd recommend something from Kenda with the Stickee compound, or something from maxxis with the 3C or super tacky compound.

I have an 08 Fluid and have found that the frame will easily fit a 2.35 tire in the rear. I've run 2.35 maxis highrollers and kenda nevegals with no clearance issues.

In the front I immagine that she would be fine running a 2.35 tire as well.

As posted, she has a 2.00 Hutchinson Spider - and in the rear it does look friggin' tight, I highly doubt that a 2.35 High Roller will fit….:???:

Reason I am asking is - I wanna buy them on the 'net, since I have no good bikeshop around and some tires are friggin cheapo, like 16 Euros for a Maxxis Ardent or around 18 Euros for a High Roller. although it is 70a compound.

Well, does nto matter, until next summer she is not forced to ride gnarn-ish stuff and 70a is fine for singletrails and loam…

Hi Mic,

I have a 2.35 Nevegal on the front of my Fox 32 Talas and the lowers are pretty much the same as the Float. There is no clearance issues up front.

Kenda tires are pretty wide compared to Maxxis from what I can tell and I have a 2007 Fluid SE which has the same rearend your wife's bike has. I am running a 2.1 nevegal with no issues at all on the rear. I think that could get away with a 2.3 Maxxis, but I know the Kenda Nevegal in 2.1 fits fine. Have her run a 2.35 and 2.1 combo. This is far superior to the Hutchinson that are on the bike.

Here are a few pics I took of my 08 Fluid 2.0 with an almost new 2.35 Nevegal mounted in the rear. Clearance is tightest at the chainstay but there is still quite a bit of room.

Hope this helps.

Bought her a 2.35 for up front and a s.20 for the back - Schwalbe Fat Albert and Albert (respectively).

WOuld have had to wait too long for Maxxis. The tread looks good, a shame that we cannot ride since we do not have that much time at the moment. :(

I have a 2.35 Kenda Nevegal up front on my Fox Float 32 fork (same lowers as the Vanilla) and there is plenty of room.

Also, consider that the Nevegal sizing is on the large side, so a 2.35 Nevegal is more like a 2.5 Maxxis. So I would think that you could probably easily fit a 2.5 Maxxis Minion on the front.

Thanx for the great input everyone. :)

Went for a quick 2 hr. spin today - weather is dry the soil has awesome grip since it is a bit moist. Kinda like typical October weather in mid November…anyways, my better half was riding downhill sections with better confidence and speed :) She says that the new tires help her to keep the bike better balanced and stable.

Glad she likes the new tires.

I found that more aggressive tires and wider bars made the Fluid much more competent going downhill without noticeably impacting it's ability to go back up. The 2.1 kenda small block 8's that came with the 08 Fluids didn't seem to live up the the bike's capabilities.

I agree, it's crazy how big a difference in control/traction you notice when going up a tire size - I think 2.3/2.35 is the perfect all around tire size.
