Right now I'm using the 661 Kyle Strait pads - not to follow some stupid trend but because they fit extremely well, are super comofortable and I usually never have any issues with my pedals hitting my shins, so I can get away with using kneeguards only.
Time for new leg armour, what to get?
I also run the 661 Kyle Strait for 'slopestylin (dirt jumping) and general trail riding, and just got some 661 Evo (D30) knee guards to replace my Kyle Straits which have worn out after 1.5 years of riding
i use raceface/roach FR….go through about a pair a year….most comfortable for me though, i have huge calf muscles so its hard to find something that fits comfortably
my response after every bail:
"how is my bike"
Maybe I just need to buy a new pair of RaceFace then?
I don't recall having the wearing through skin issue when they were new, just in the last 2 years.
I'll throw in another vote for the AXO pads. I've got the DH version and love them. I put 'em on and forget about them. Rarely do I have to readjust them. I figure it has something to do with the hinge at the new joint. I've gone down a couple times and they stay put. They are pricey, but if I broke them today, I would pick up a second pair in a heartbeat.

These are the best full legs I have ever rode… Very comfortable and the knee part stays up in the right place due to the floating knee/shin interface. They are quite cool they let in a tone of air, and dust in a cool pattern on your shin. I've taken some pretty good smashes to the shins/knees with these bad boys and they don't crack like Roach/RaceFace can and have.
And to top it off they are a local company! And if your missus rides they have chick friendly colors.

sorry can't snag a snap off their website.
one thing to keep in mind with any pivot style leg armor is it will eventualy develop wear at the joint..
that style of armor is all i use, cuz i love to have full knee cap coverage.. i find every other style of armor has minimal or NO coverage for the top of the kneecap when u actualy crash..
i do find the AXO armor listed is nicer to use with a soft pad knee armor aswell.. i use a older set of 661 chickenwing knees underneath the AXO.. gives me the best of both worlds..
the nice squishy gel pad directly against my leg, but wrapped on the outside by the full AXO hard plastic armor..
p.s. wear leg lycra, it does a fantastic job of isolating ur skin from whateva leg armor u use..my skin never gets irtated or rashed..

WERD!! I have the same and they are amaaazing!! my only problem with them is that mine are now too small (ill have to get some new ones. They are bullet proof and I have never had them shift or slip off my knee cap or leg. I highly recommend them. :fix:
i dont have calfs or ankles for that matter so im rocking the sizw small 661 kyle straits, i have a pair of dainese from a few years ago that i never wear anymore, seems pointless to adjust armour all the time. Those tld lopes are something i may look into, never knew they had a seperate knee pad. i could really care less about my shins getting hacked up, its my kness im more worried about.
Why slag free swag?
ummm, as your doctor i recommend against riding with a scaphoid fracture.
Without a doubt the Lopes pads from Troy Lee. I've had many Roach pads and even the old Dainese. The TLD pads come with a neoprene knee wrap which you can wear without the knee and shin pads on a light XC ride. Or you can strap on the pads when you a going to ride the gnarly stuff. They are light, not bulky, they breathe well and they provide a ton of protection.
^^^ exactly what they said above.
Been running them for about 6 weeks now - light, comfy, do the job well. Some slight movement, have to refit them after each couple of runs but that's no real hassle. Had to put extra length of fixing on the lower clasp due to me having extra thick calves, Nathan Rennie "man-beast" style. The pads look a little bit different, and that's a good thing IMHO.
I've been using Roach/RaceFace leg armour since it came out, but using them for multiple hours in the bike parks causes the fabric to wear the skin off just above my knees. (Yes, I've washed them. Yes, I've tried protecting the skin with moleskin.)
What are people using these days?
They do the same thing to me, so I wear a set of roadie knee warmers under them. Problem solved, and it isn't any hotter than the armor is by itself.
These?
Or the DH model?
The DH model is what I have, they stay up great and arent too hot, the top half straps to the thigh and the bottom half to the shin/calve, and they pivot wonderfully. Your knee is completly encased from all angles in hard plastic, the hinge system is great, check them out in person.

How much is a pair? Preferrably in Green or Babyblue….

I think they are around $90 +/- and color should not affect the price. I got mine a couple of years ago on sale and can't remember the original price. Check out you LBS, if they don't have them ask for them to order them in.
no one likes ghetto?? Srsly - it works - it's cheap!
