I exhausted the last few hours searching and reading through the threads. This has been a recycled topic, however no one clear answer.

Which is better for winter Shore riding (wet wet wet !) and please take price, longevity into consideration as well.

1) Front - Kenda Nevegal's
2) Front - Michi 16's
3) Front - Michi 32's
4) Front - Big Earl's
5) Rear - Kenda Nevegal's
6) Rear - Michi 16's
7) Rear - Michi 32's
8) Rear - Big Earl's
9) Front/Rear - High Roller's
10) Front/Rear - or another brand/tire

I would appreciate why you think one of the above is best suited for winter ONLY riding, and not slam the others.

Please no comments like "Kenda's suck" because that doesn't answer much at all.

Wet riding. :)

Nevegals are awesome but do wear quickly. Michi 32 (The one with big knobs) is just an incredible tyre for everything, and if you want value for money, the Big Earls are really really good, although I haven't really had too much wet testing on them.
Michi is my fave though. I never was fond of the Maxxis, they always felt like they were too sensitive to pressure, too little and they feel flat, too much and they bounce.

If you get Big Earls, careful how you talk about them around others else they will think that you are talking about big girl tyres!

the Maxxis high rollers have held up great for me, i run a 42 compound 2.7 front and 60 2.5 rear setup. sticks to the ground like nothing else wether its wet or dry. i run them at about 30psi and they work great on my local trails. although i cant give you feedback as to how they ride on the shore i can reccommend them fully.
Saying that, ive heard fantastic reviews on forums about the Michi 32's.

i suppose its a matter of opinion and choice.

Yeah, deep penetration is pretty key. Unfortunately it can be hard to achieve, lubrication can definitely help in some cases.

And experience, which is why this would be the best people to ask.

Either way, I'm looking at $80-140 around there for a set of strictly winter, wet tires.

For me, I'd rather pay a few bucks more to keep my bike on that last foot of slippery log rather than going cheap, falling off and hurting myself.

BTW, any good sales on now for tires ?

Comp 16 front and rear for wet [HTML_REMOVED] muddy. The best wet tire by far. A ST High Roller is okay too but once it starts to wear, then you may as well replace it.

Whatever you get, make sure its on the narrow side, like a 2.2 to 2.5". Wide tires suck in mud, like the Comp 32, that has to be one of the worst mud tires - great on rocks, too floaty in mud.

Remember that a wet tire should have a soft, small, and aggressive tread pattern for it to work great.

see below …

) Front - Kenda Nevegal's - cheap, rolls fast, stick well on everything, decent lifetime ((my pick))

) Michi 16's - nice tire, but pricey as with all michis. for my money i rather run the Nevegal even if it's only 9/10ths the performance at 1/2 the cost (roughly).

) Michi 32's - HEAVY AND SLOW, but sticks like a mofo on gnar chutes. i always know who is running these as their bikes coast slower than anyone else's

) Front - Big Earl's - some people like these and they are cheaper than Michi. not so sold on dual-comound for winter though

) - High Roller's - these suck ass in the wet IMO, at least my set of super tacky rollers did

) Front/Rear - .243 tire - cheap and grippy but corners like ass with the square tread profile

IMO the rollers are absolute crap in the wet … stay away. it's a dry tire only really, even in the ST flavor.

So a good toss up between the Nevegal's and the Michi 16's .

I'm guessing price difference is significant between the two.

Is performance difference noticeable ?

..and which would be better for the Nevegal's 2.35 or 2.5 .. and the wire or the folding ?

true, wide tires suck in actual mud (ie muddy race course) but they provide much better traction on wet hard surfaces like logrides, rock faces etc

I've had good luck with racing HR's in the mud. You know how good/bad a tire is when you're taking off camber muddy corners at speed. And Kamloops mud is literaly like ice, much slipery than the NS. The HR's are holding up fine.

Wondering what size … 2.35 front / 2.5 rear or both 2.5's .

What about one of these combo's ..

Michi 16 2.2 front
Michi 24 2.5 rear

or

Nevegal 2.35 front
Nevegal 2.5 rear

… good.. bad.. I'm the guy with the gun.

don't get the 243's. there fine for the rear but they hold a turn like shit. not very confidence inspiring. grippy as hell though.

I see a few types of Nevegal 's ..

Downhill model w/ Sticky E 60 tpi casing
Downhill model w/ DTC 120tpi casing
FR model w/ Sticky E

I'm guess most of you who are running them are using the DH DTC one ?
